Rapidly expanding, industry leader is seeking a Director of Payroll & Benefits reporting directly to the CFO.

Job Summary

Responsible for overseeing and managing the organization’s payroll department, ensuring compensation is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations. This generally includes multi-state payroll schedules for exempt and non-exempt employees, commission calculations, time tracking, and reporting. Must be able to identify and implement best practices on department procedures and have experience with implementing payroll systems. As this position faces tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting and reporting activities, this role requires a proactive team player with great technical and customer service skills.

Responsibilities
  • Manage entire payroll process to ensure accurate and timely processing of semi-monthly and monthly payroll, including gross wages, bonuses/commissions, employer and employee tax withholding, health insurance premiums and savings plans deductions, and employee fringe benefits
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws. Maintain best practices, including but not limited to the review of quarterly employment tax return filings
  • Understand the importance of all compliance matters and exercise a sense of urgency to remediate issues including but not limited to tax notices
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date employee payroll records
  • Address payroll-related queries and requests and prepare relevant monthly, quarterly, year-end, and ad-hoc reports
  • Oversee various payroll schedules, journal entries, and the verification of commission calculations against their accruals and investigate variances
  • Day to benefits administration, including benefit reconciliations
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
  • 8+ years payroll processing experience
  • 3+ years supervisory experience
  • Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including taxes, preparation, balancing, and internal controls
  • Knowledge of payroll journal entries
  • Advanced Excel
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
