Position Overview
The Senior Associate – State & Local Tax (SALT) is responsible for supporting the delivery of state and local tax services to clients across a variety of industries. This role involves assisting clients in understanding the tax implications of their business operations, preparing and reviewing state and local tax filings, and researching complex multistate tax issues. The Senior Associate will work closely with SALT leadership and Core Tax Partners, Directors, and Managers to provide technical expertise on multistate tax matters and assist with tax compliance, planning, and advisory services.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and review state and local tax returns, including income/franchise, sales and use, and other multistate filings as applicable
- Conduct research on complex state and local tax matters, including nexus, apportionment, and multistate compliance issues
- Assist in identifying tax planning opportunities and recommending solutions to help clients manage their state and local tax obligations
- Support the preparation of tax provisions related to state income taxes, as needed
- Monitor and analyze changes in state and local tax regulations and assess their potential impact on clients
- Work collaboratively with Partners, Directors, Managers, and other tax professionals to deliver high-quality client service
- Assist in mentoring and reviewing the work of associates and interns, as appropriate
- Maintain strong client relationships and communicate effectively regarding tax matters and project status
- 3–5+ years of experience in public accounting with a focus on State and Local Tax (SALT)
- Experience with multistate tax compliance preferred
- Experience with corporate taxation and partnerships preferred
- Exposure to tax provisions is a plus
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field required
- Master’s degree in taxation or accounting preferred
- CPA license or CPA candidate strongly preferred
- Experience with standard tax compliance and research tools preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word
- Strong analytical and research skills with attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Commitment to delivering high-quality client service
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues and clients
