Senior Commercial Portfolio Manager General Function

The Portfolio Manager is a key member of the coverage team, managing transactions and business portfolio tasks. PMs are expected to be intimately involved in the deal process, making recommendations on appropriate credit structures, pricing, etc. PMs are directly accountable for managing a portfolio of accounts through review of updated financial statements, proactive monitoring, and interaction with the Credit Analyst. Responsibilities include risk management through open communication, elevating concerns, and adhering to policies and procedures.

PMs ensure the right actions for customers and colleagues, driving a positive customer experience. While operating within the bank's risk appetite, they consistently identify, assess, manage, monitor, and report risks of all types.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Accountable for managing a portfolio of accounts.
  • Review and recommend credit decisions.
  • Partner with the Relationship Manager, forming the coverage team to meet with clients and participate in business development calls, assess prospective client viability for credit, define borrower and guarantor terms, deal structure, credit terms and conditions, and collateral value.
  • Generate commitment letters.
  • Provide business partners with credit lending policy interpretation.
  • Perform final risk rating analysis.
  • Capture and document credit decisions, conditions, and modifications.
  • Collaborate with the Credit Analyst to perform portfolio management duties such as establishing and maintaining investor group on lender portal, performing monitoring actions and conducting periodic deal reviews, and executing decisions to renew or modify deals.
  • Communicate directly with clients regarding credit events and actions as needed.
  • Work independently to pitch complex deal structures.
  • Focus on continuous learning to keep up with changing market dynamics.
  • Serve as subject‑matter expert, mentoring junior PMs and Credit Analysts.
  • Leverage expertise to provide partners with insights into the bank's different lines of business and related economics.

Minimum Knowledge,

Skills And Abilities

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Business (e.g., Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting).
  • At least 8 years of credit analysis and/or loan review experience in Commercial Banking.
  • Highly proficient analytical, critical thinking and communication skills.
  • Professional presence (client‑facing).
  • Experience managing an advanced commercial client portfolio with great complexity.
  • Ability to partner with all deal stakeholders including clients, relationship manager and credit teams.
  • Expertise in financial and risk analysis, including financial modeling.
  • Demonstrated expertise in problem solving.
  • Proficiency with technology and ability to learn new applications.
  • Ability to work in normal office environment with little exposure to dust, noise, temperature variation, etc.
  • Extended viewing of a CRT screen.
  • Some travel required.
Compensation and Benefits

The base salary for this position reflects the range of salary levels for all roles within this pay grade across the U.S. Individual salaries will vary based on role, skills, experience, education and location. In addition, the role is eligible for an incentive compensation plan, with payments based on company, line of business and/or individual performance. Benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, vision, 401(k) and other programs.
