Job Overview
The Mortgage Lending Officer role is a developing professional role that identifies policy and applies specialty knowledge in monitoring and assessing processes and data.
It integrates disciplinary knowledge within the specialist area with a foundational understanding of related industry practices and collaborates with the team to accomplish area objectives. The Home Lending Officer works within Citi Bank Retail Mortgage, which provides home‑lending services through Citibank branches and centralized service centers. This role represents the Retail Mortgage business by providing superior service to clients, referral partners, and internal stakeholders and is responsible for originating high‑quality residential real‑estate loans.
The position engages internally with retail branch partners, operations, community business development officers, real‑estate agents, and other referrers to drive mortgage sales and client relationships.
- Consult with customers about their financial situation, objectives, and lending needs.
- Collect and analyze information about customers’ financial situation, goals, risk tolerance, future plans, income, assets, debts, cash flow, and credit history.
- Analyze financial information to assess whether the customer and property may qualify for a lending solution.
- Make recommendations on lending solutions that best meet customers’ objectives.
- Advise customers about the consequences, risks, and benefits of alternative lending solutions.
- Promote Citi’s brand and offerings to real‑estate agencies, builders, referral sources, and customers.
- Visit customers outside of Citi’s offices, with visits varying by clientele, geography, market conditions, and other factors.
- Work as a team with internal partners to support and grow our customers.
- Refer customers seeking services beyond lending to appropriate Citi professionals.
- Partner with Operations teams to ensure seamless transfer of loan applications and collection of required documents.
- Work with Processors/Closers and customers to ensure timely closing of loans.
- Go to key referral relationships (Realtors, CPAs, Builders, etc.) to drive mortgage business into the bank.
- Introduce clients to segment partners when appropriate (Bank, Wealth Management, Small Business, Cards, etc.).
- Keep abreast of market trends and regulatory changes and expand networks to better serve clients and professionals.
- Assess risk appropriately, uphold Citi’s reputation, and ensure compliance with laws, rules, and regulations while exercising ethical judgment and reporting control issues transparently.
- 2–5 years relevant experience.
- 3+ years previous mortgage sales experience required.
- Residential Mortgage experience required.
- Established book of business.
- Proven product sales capability required.
- FHA/VA & conventional loan experience preferred.
- Ability to comprehend and explain financial calculations and pricing alternatives.
- Ability to communicate required documents and information to obtain a loan.
- Knowledge of laws and regulations that govern consumer lending, including fair lending, privacy, and RESPA.
- Demonstrated customer service skills.
- Strong relationship development and management skills.
- Expertise in general lending products and the overall mortgage industry.
- Must register as a mortgage loan originator with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry and obtain a unique identifier before engaging in loan originator activities.
- Bachelor’s/University degree or equivalent experience.
Primary Location Full Time Salary Range: $60,000.00 - $
