Position Summary:
The College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Assistant Director of Medical Student Financial Aid in Boca Raton, FL.
The Assistant Director of Medical Student Financial Aid reports to the Director of Medical Student Financial Aid and Records and is responsible for the daily administration and technical processing of federal and private medical student loan programs. Manages key operational areas to ensure that financial wellness, debt management, and lending objectives are clearly communicated and successfully achieved. The Assistant Director provides leadership in developing student-facing financial resources, assists with the administration and interpretation of applicable laws, rules, policies, and procedures, and serves as a primary liaison for admitted students to promote transparency in the cost of medical education.
Supports loan processing and student financial counseling consistent with applicable policies, procedures, and institutional guidelines.
Loan Program Administration:
+ Processes Federal Direct Graduate PLUS loan certifications and performs Direct Loan revisions in response to changes in student enrollment, eligibility, or requested borrowing adjustments.
+ Manages the full lifecycle of the private student loan portfolio, including maintaining lender relations through ELM-Select and ensuring compliance with institutional and federal certification standards.
+ Conducts comprehensive reviews of system-generated award packages to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance. Monitors weekly administrative reports to proactively identify and resolve discrepancies, including past-due balances, over funding, and disbursement errors.
+ Evaluates and processes complex Cost of Attendance (COA) increase requests, including determining eligibility for additional funding related to away rotations and residency interview expenses. Makes professional judgment determinations for students with exceptional financial circumstances while ensuring appropriate documentation and compliance with federal guidelines.
+ Utilizes multiple student information systems (federal, state, and institutional) to compile data and prepare reports required for the AAMC, LCME, and other internal and external entities.
Financial Literacy & Debt Management Support:
+ Assists in the coordination and delivery of the four-year Financial Literacy and Debt Management Program.
+ Supports the management of the dedicated financial wellness Canvas course, ensuring all modules and required tasks are current and accessible to students.
+ Conducts mandatory one-on-one meetings with first-year student borrowers to review debt management strategies, repayment projections, and interest capitalization.
+ Meets individually with students to review personal budget worksheets, identifying opportunities for responsible borrowing and reduced reliance on high-interest debt.
Admitted Student Onboarding & Collaborative Outreach:
+ Serves as the primary point of contact for admitted students and conducts individualized counseling sessions to review Financial Acknowledgment forms and ensure transparency regarding cost of attendance and funding options.
+ Partners with the Office of Admissions to develop and deliver comprehensive financial aid presentations and informational materials for accepted students and their families.
Compliance, Operations & Web Support:
+ Manages and updates office web content to ensure that all information, including cost of attendance, policy changes, and financial wellness resources, is accurate, current, and accessible.
+ Remains current on federal and state regulatory changes to ensure all aid programs are administered in compliance with applicable laws and University policies.
+ Assists the Director in drafting and revising financial aid policies and procedures to improve efficiency and streamline office operations.
+ Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
