About the RoleAs an AI / Machine Learning Engineer, Manager Consultant in the Power & Utilities sector, you will help advise and solve challenging problems for clients. Your work involves researching, building, and implementing scalable AI systems that learn and make predictions tailored to business requirements across cloud and on‑premise environments. You will also enhance data pipelines and storage, monitor and evaluate learning processes, and industrialize analysis into effective analytics solutions.
In the power & utilities domain you will support regulated environments such as electric, gas, and water utilities, addressing grid reliability, outage prediction, capital planning, and regulatory reporting.
- Lead workstream delivery and manage processes and projects.
- Continuously improve processes through research and analysis.
- Manage professional employees and supervise teams, ensuring performance and results.
- Engage actively with clients, lead work streams from planning to closure.
- Identify opportunities for additional services and manage engagement economics.
- Design and deliver AI/ML use cases for the industry, e.g. asset health prediction, outage detection, vegetation management, demand forecasting, and regulatory analytics.
- Integrate utility data sources such as SCADA, AMI, GIS, EAM, OMS, CIS, and historian systems into modern analytics platforms.
- Support utilities in moving AI solutions from pilots to production while meeting regulatory, audit, cybersecurity, and data governance requirements.
To be successful you will blend technical expertise with strong interpersonal skills. You will provide technical guidance, share knowledge, deliver quality client services, and hold a strong sense of ethics and integrity. Familiarity with regulated operating models, risk tolerance, safety culture, and long asset life cycles is essential.
Preferred Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field.
- 6–10 years of full‑time experience in AI, data science, or machine learning.
- 2–4 years of experience directly managing technical teams.
- Strong programming skills in Python and experience building production AI/ML solutions on a major cloud platform.
- Proficiency with generative‑AI models and frameworks (OpenAI, DALL‑E, Lang Chain, RAG) and core ML packages (scikit‑learn, PyTorch).
- Experience with NLP, deep learning, Dev Ops (Git, Azure Dev Ops), Agile (Jira) and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with MLOps workflows, model retraining, feedback loops, monitoring, and reporting.
- Knowledge of data structures, modelling, and software engineering best practices.
- Strong foundation in mathematics, statistics, operations research, SQL, Pandas, Spark, and deep learning techniques.
- Excellent communication skills and willingness to travel for client engagement.
- Commercial acumen, negotiation skills, and strong relationship building.
- Experience delivering analytics or AI solutions in asset‑intensive environments such as utilities, energy, or transportation.
- Understanding of utility regulatory, compliance, or operational data is a plus.
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physical Sciences, or other quantitative field.
- Expertise in languages beyond Python such as R, JavaScript, Java, C++, or
C. - Experience fine‑tuning generative AI models.
- Experience managing complex multi‑stakeholder projects.
- Strong grasp of industry trends and emerging technologies.
- Data visualization, storytelling, image or audio processing skills.
- Exposure to power & utilities transformation programmes like grid modernization or DER integration.
- Experience supporting executive‑level decision‑making in regulated environments.
Competitive compensation (base salary $125,500–$230,200; $150,700–$261,600 for NYC/WA/CA). Comprehensive benefits include medical, dental, pension, 401(k) plans, and paid time off.
