General Statement of Job

Performs professional-level work involving the planning, coordination, and supervision of recreation programs, staff, and operations at a community recreation center. Responsibilities include program development, budget administration, facility scheduling, staff supervision, and public engagement. Supervision is exercised over full- and part-time employees. Work is performed under general supervision with considerable independence, initiative, and responsibility.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and supervise recreational programs and activities at the Recreation Center; enforce Center policies and maintain order.
  • Schedule and supervise Center staff for daily operations, programs, and special events.
  • Train staff, assign work, and evaluate employee performance.
  • Collect and process fees for instructors, special events, and private facility rentals.
  • Administer the Recreation Center budget; prepare program and Center budgets; monitor and control expenditures.
  • Purchase supplies and equipment in accordance with budget and operational needs.
  • Schedule, organize, and maintain records for room usage and other Center activities.
  • Prepare permits and facility usage agreements.
  • Develop new programs and services to meet community needs.
  • Establish community partnerships and recruit instructors.
  • Determine program fees and schedules.
  • Prepare promotional materials and press releases to promote recreational activities.
  • Coordinate and promote recreational activities and special events.
  • Manage the Recreation Department’s registration software system, including user access, staff training, data accuracy, and system updates.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Financial Responsibilities
  • Collect and process fees for instructors, special events, and private facility rentals.
  • Administer the Recreation Center budget; prepare program and Center budgets; monitor and control expenditures.
  • User fee recommendations, cost revenue tracking, requisitions, general and special agreement purchasing.
  • Purchase supplies and equipment in accordance with budget and operational needs.
  • Determine program fees and schedules.
  • Responsible for the daily deposit, facility crosswalk, chargebacks, and direct payment requests.
Knowledge of
  • Principles and practices of recreation program planning, administration, and evaluation.
  • Operation and management of a community recreation center.
  • Budget preparation, monitoring, and expenditure control.
  • Staff supervision, training, and performance evaluation practices.
  • Facility scheduling, permitting, and usage agreements.
