Position Summary

The Nurse Manager provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the School’s health services program, ensuring high‑quality, student‑centered care for both day students and residential life boarding students while on campus. The role manages nursing staff, the operations of the health centers, and the delivery of comprehensive health care services. The Nurse Manager partners closely with families, consulting physicians, faculty, residential staff, and school leadership to support student health and well‑being.

This position reports to the Director of Wellness, PK‑12 and collaborates with the school’s contracted physician.

Nurse Manager – Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and supervise nursing staff, fostering a collaborative, student‑focused health services team and serving as back‑up nurse for clinic and residential life services as needed.
  • Ensure delivery of high‑quality care by developing, implementing, and interpreting health policies and nursing standards in accordance with the Florida Board of Nursing, the Florida Nurse Practice Act, and applicable regulations.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including HIPAA and FERPA, and complete all required reporting to bodies such as the Department of Health and accrediting organizations.
  • Apply strong clinical risk‑management principles to identify and mitigate health and safety concerns, oversee incident reporting, and collaborate with risk‑management personnel.
  • Monitor health outcomes and departmental performance, preparing annual reports summarizing trends, compliance metrics, and program effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain written nursing guidelines, health services policies, and procedures, ensuring implementation and staff training.
  • Promote a safe, organized, and welcoming health center environment, overseeing infection‑control protocols, medication administration, storage practices, and controlled‑substance compliance.
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, supervise, and evaluate nursing and support staff; manage schedules, including on‑call staffing, and support professional growth.
  • Work collaboratively with athletic training staff to support student athletes.
  • Provide emotional and psychological support to students, coordinating referrals to counselors, clergy, or community providers as appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty, administrators, and outside health care providers while maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Partner with academic deans, counselors, learning specialists, and faculty to coordinate care plans and academic accommodations for students whose medical needs affect school participation.
  • Collaborate with faculty and administrators to plan and implement health coverage and individualized plans for students on off‑campus programs.
  • Participate in the on‑call rotation during high‑need periods or staffing gaps, ensuring coverage and continuity of care in the 24/7 boarding environment.
  • Oversee departmental budgeting and financial management, including monitoring expenditures, approving purchases, and managing medical supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain confidential student health records and audit documentation to ensure compliance, accuracy, and quality assurance.
  • Ensure proper operation and maintenance of medical and emergency equipment, including inventory oversight and emergency preparedness planning.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and promote evidence‑based practice among nursing staff.
  • Maintain strong interdisciplinary relationships through effective communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving.
