The real-time command center (RTCC) technician works under the general supervision of the Police Department performing intermediate level technical and administrative work, which involves monitoring video cameras to detect criminal or suspicious activity, identify real life threats, and relaying that information to police officers via radio. Work also includes monitoring, operating and interpreting multiple interactive software systems regarding emergency and criminal calls for service.
Work also includes conducting queries of applicable public safety software as well as researching relevant videos to assist in investigations and uploading video to evidence repositories and testimony in related investigations and cases. Other related duties as assigned.
- Responsible for monitoring and interpreting information from various systems
- Responsible for reporting any criminal, unauthorized or irregular activity to public safety dispatchers and/or law enforcement officers
- Responsible for operating a two-way radio
- Responsible for maintaining logs and reports
The real-time command center technician must have a thorough knowledge of the methods and procedures of various operating systems, federal and state regulations governing data and voice transmissions, the geography of the City and the locations of important buildings. The real-time command center technician must be able to communicate in writing and verbally in a clear and effective manner, handle multiple activities simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail, exercise sound independent judgment and make decisions within established guidelines.
The real-time command center technician must be able to speak distinctly and clearly. The real-time command center technician must have the skills to use common office software, to include Microsoft Office and applicable specialized public safety software. The real-time command center technician must be able to provide outstanding customer service, both internally and externally.
At least thirty (30) credit hours from an accredited college or university with a concentration in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Computer Science, or other closely related field. Law enforcement experience preferred.
Special RequirementsThe real-time command center technician must possess or be able to obtain certifications necessary for the position within one year of employment, and must meet or exceed minimum quality assurance ratings in each discipline. The real-time command center applicant must pass a thorough background investigation and possess a valid Florida driver's license, with no more than six (6) points in the past three (3) years.
The real-time command center technician must be available for shift work in a 24‑hour‑a‑day, seven‑days‑a‑week work environment.
