General Statement of Job
Performs intermediate-skilled work in the repair, maintenance, and care of irrigation systems and pumps; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision. Limited supervision is exercised over subordinate workers.
Responsibility Highlights- Operate wire-tracking device to locate irrigation wires and restore 24
VAC and 12
VDC operations. - Operate trencher and follow operating procedures.
- Repair and maintain irrigation systems and pumps.
- Use shovels to dig ditches for irrigation lines, mains, and laterals.
- Disassemble pumps, replace defective parts, and reassemble.
- Check pump stations for proper operation, leaks, and troubleshooting.
- Check clocks, timers, valves, and heads.
- Replace missing or broken heads, nozzles, and repair irrigation lines.
- Install electric valves and mainlines for new and existing areas.
- Operate and troubleshoot Motorola Computerized Controllers.
- Monitor ICC Systems Central Computer for field unit valve alarms.
- Conduct wet checks per weekly schedule using ICC Systems Central Computer.
- Operate and troubleshoot field radios.
- Make daily inspections using City of Boca Raton's irrigation standards.
- Respond to emergency calls for leaks, running water, or valve issues.
- Maintain inventory list of supplies, parts, equipment, and tools daily.
- Perform additional related tasks as required.
- Tools, materials, and equipment used in irrigation system maintenance and repair.
- Materials, equipment, tools, and techniques of irrigation system repair and maintenance.
- Safety precautions applicable to duties of the job.
- Basic computer operation knowledge.
- Operation, maintenance, and repair of electric irrigation valves and solar equipment.
- Complete Motorola Irrigation System Training satisfactorily.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Use irrigation hand tools and voltmeter to evaluate and repair issues.
- Operate required machinery and equipment.
- Perform manual labor for extended periods of time.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- One year of experience in pump maintenance or irrigation system work.
- Valid State of Florida Class "E" driver’s license.
- Basic Irrigation Design Certificate.
- Basic computer experience.
- Criminal background check.
- Employment verification.
- Motor vehicle report (MVR) check.
- Certification/license verification.
- Physical assessment.
- Drug and alcohol screening.

- Constantly operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
- Constantly assessing accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work.
- Constantly observing details accurately and identifying variances.
- Constantly lifting/carrying objects 50 pounds or less.
- Constantly pushing/pulling objects 50 pounds or less.
- Constantly working in areas that may be uncomfortable due to drafts, noise, temperature variation, or the like.
- Constantly working in outdoor areas where exposure to animals, reptiles, or insects may occur.
- Constantly working with equipment or performing procedures where carelessness could cause minor cuts, bruises, or muscle pulls.
- Occasionally working in areas that are very uncomfortable due to extreme temperature, noise levels, or other environmental conditions.
- Occasionally required to demonstrate regular in‑office and/or on‑site attendance.
When normal operations of City departments are suspended or interrupted due to a declaration of a state of emergency, any employee may be deemed essential. Employees deemed necessary for emergency operations or special work detail are required to work.
