General Statement Of Job Oversee, manage, and perform difficult skilled work in the preparation of street signs and other markings, work on computerized sign inventories and work order systems. Work is performed with limited supervision.

Essential Functions
  • Oversee, manage and complete field projects including roadway striping and signing operations.
  • Schedule and perform regular maintenance activities related to pavement markings and street signs.
  • Prepare design layouts for street signs using standard or special designs.
  • Operate the Sign Maker System.
  • Perform required maintenance of traffic functions depending on the requirements for any particular job.
  • Manufacture traffic signs with the letter cutting machine and sign making machine and other equipment.
  • Operate equipment used in pavement marking.
  • Perform design functions for total layout of complex sign displays.
  • Perform after hour on call emergency duty for bridge and traffic control.

  • Makes minor repairs to machinery and equipment.
  • Coordinate with other City Personnel in field projects that involve a variety of disciplines.

Knowledge Of Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • The methods, equipment and materials used in the installation of traffic pavement markings and delineation
  • The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways, FDOT Roadway and Design Standards and the occupational hazards and necessary precautions of traffic device installation work
  • Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as needed
  • General office practices and procedures
  • The occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary to the proper operation of varied maintenance equipment
Skilled In
  • The use of computer and maintenance management software systems
  • The use of equipment to which assigned, including operation of heavy equipment related to road striping
  • Troubleshooting and mechanical diagnostics
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Reading comprehension – both of routine communications as well as technical manuals, diagrams, or other work-related documents
  • Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and general computer proficiency
Ability To
  • Obtain Signs & Pavement Markings Technician Level II certification issued by IMSA within one year of employment
  • Operate heavy equipment related to road striping
  • Work with computer software based on MS Windows to manage Inventory Systems
  • Perform graphic displays and drafting with a minimum of supervision
  • Wear safety glasses, safety harness, safety shoes/boots, and gloves
  • Complete recertification requirements set by IMSA to retain Signs & Pavement Markings Technician Level II certification.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates
  • Climb ladders and scaffolding as needed
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing
Minimum Qualifications Minimum and

Preferred Qualifications
  • Any combination of education equivalent to graduation from high school required;
  • Three (3) years of experience as a Traffic Control Technician (related to signs and markings) is required
  • Possession of a valid State of Florida Class "E" driver's license
