An opportunity is available for an Electricity Distribution Network First Responder to join us, based at our depot in Bodmin.

Our electrical engineers are the backbone of our organisation and play a pivotal role in restoring electricity supplies for our customers. Working alone, you will often be the first person our customers meet and we hope, the colleague who resolves their issue. You will have strong links to other Field Operations teams who can support onsite, when necessary, but on the whole, you will be the face of National Grid onsite, providing solutions and an exceptional customer experience.

Typical issues you may need to resolve include loss of supply at a property, safety concerns on the network, carrying out asset inspections or fitting meter isolator switches.

You will work 37 hours a week and, subject to business need, may be required to undertake standby duties to provide coverage for our customers 24/7.

Hold a recognised Level 2 Electrical qualification (NVQ/City & Guilds) or equivalent. Evidence of your stated qualifications will be required on appointment.

The ideal candidate will put health and safety at the forefront of everything they do, with an understanding of ESQCR & Electricity at Work Regulations, and will drive a safety culture that is everyone’s responsibility.

Experience in electrical installation – commercial & domestic property – and a history of customer‑facing roles that demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills.

A full UK/EU driving licence is essential. We will provide a company vehicle for business use only.

Reside within approximately 45 minutes of the depot.

Opportunity to broaden duties to include switching at HV may arise, with an annual allowance for this additional work.

A NRSWA qualification or understanding of NRSWA legislation is desirable, but full training can be provided.

This role is subject to a satisfactory Barring Service (DBS) check. Depending on the role, different levels of screening and vetting are required. Some roles require a triannual check.
