Position: After School Care Worker- St Peter the Apostle Catholic School

Overview

The After School Care Worker is responsible for the supervision of students in the school’s extended care program. Supervise all activities that take place as part of the program and ensure the safety of each child attending the school’s extended care program.

Employment Status: Part-time
FLSA Status: Non-exempt/Hourly

Position Responsibilities
  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school.
  • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Supports and adheres to the policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese of San Antonio, including the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters.
  • Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis and takes precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of self and others.
  • Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of information or material obtained in the service of the organization, including but not limited to client names, services rendered, donor names and gifts, investigations or results, and financial information.
  • Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy is mandatory.
  • Demonstrates a solution-oriented approach, promotes teamwork, and supports the Mission and Vision of the organization.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Differentiates lessons and activities to be appropriate for students of various ages and abilities as needed.
  • Prepares and gathers materials and supplies prior to programs daily.
  • Assists and supervises children during all activities.
  • Assists children with meal/snack time and cleanup.
  • Maintains a clean site and ensures supplies are returned to the appropriate place; follows proper cleaning requirements and procedures.
  • Ensures the site appearance, cleanliness, and a safe environment are appropriately maintained.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and site events as requested.
  • Communicates appropriate information to parents.
  • Assists in enrollment, records, daily attendance submissions, and other documents assigned by the site coordinator.
  • Adheres to policies, procedures, and childcare guidelines proactively, with safety and care of children as the primary focus.
  • Builds positive relationships with each after-school participant and fosters positive connections among participants; actively engages with children to support their development and the group.
  • Interacts professionally with children, parents, school staff, community members and partners.
  • Manages the assigned group, enforces progressive discipline as needed, and reports observations and incidents to the site coordinator or school principal.
  • Participates in and evaluates the effectiveness of activities and events.
  • Participates in staff or member development, including supervision, team meetings, orientation and training.
  • Completes other relevant programmatic duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • High Diploma with demonstrated relevant equivalent experience in working with school-age children and/or youth development.
  • At least 18 years of age.

License and Credentials

  • Reliable transportation
  • Valid driver license
  • Valid vehicle insurance
  • Must pass archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening

Minimum Knowledge And Skills

  • Understand and apply basic child and adolescent development principles.
  • Communicate and develop positive relationships with youth.
  • Adapt, facilitate and evaluate age-appropriate activities with and for the group.
  • Involve and empower youth.
  • Identify potential risk factors in a program environment and take measures to reduce risk.
  • Care for, involve and work with families and community.
  • Work as part of a team and show professionalism.
  • Demonstrate the attributes and qualities of a positive role model.
  • Interact with and relate to youth in ways that support asset building.
  • Be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, and able to work well independently and on a team.
  • Possess good written and verbal skills.
  • Demonstrate good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
