On-call as needed

This position is locally funded.

Position Summary

The Guest Teacher is responsible for providing instruction, managing the classroom environment, and promoting student learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. This role involves implementing lesson plans, maintaining a positive and respectful learning atmosphere, and ensuring the continuity of the educational process. The Guest Teacher will engage students in meaningful learning activities, support their academic and personal development, and uphold school policies and procedures.

By fostering a safe, inclusive, and enriching environment, the Guest Teacher plays a vital role in helping students remain on track with their learning and achieve their full academic potential.

Minimum Requirements

* High school diploma or GED equivalent recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency.

* Must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the candidate.

Out-of-country transcripts must be evaluated and translated by an approved (TEA) Texas Education Agency organization.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* Knowledge of core academic subject assigned and ability to follow/deliver a lesson plan.

* Ability to engage and communicate effectively with students from diverse backgrounds in a respectful, professional manner.

* Skilled in delivering instructional content in-person while maintaining effective classroom management.

* Ability to follow oral and written instructions with minimal supervision.

* Ability to be flexible and adaptable when responding to the dynamic nature of the school setting and varying student needs.

* Ability to work as a member of a team to help campus and staff.

* Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations, including attendance, punctuality, and confidentiality.

* Comply with the Texas Educator's Code of Ethics.

* Attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job.

* Basic technology skills, ability to log into staff portal, access digital lessons, take attendance, and check district Outlook account.

* Knowledge of Google Drive and Google programs (Docs, Sheets, Forms, and Slides).

Special Education Assignments

* Duties may include feeding, hygiene, positioning, transferring to and from wheelchair. May aid other staff using crisis intervention techniques and other behavior modification procedures.

Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities

* Implement effective lessons in the absence of the regular teacher.

* Ensure district policies are observed during all activities.

* Create a safe classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate based on the needs of the student.

* Ensure that students are never left unattended and are appropriately supervised at all times.

* Be familiar with all BISD safety and evacuation procedures.

* Review notes for the day, take attendance, and follow the lesson plans of the teacher.

* Maintain confidentiality as defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

* Demonstrate the ability to adapt to circumstances. Exhibit good judgment and use appropriate language or behavior while on assignment.

* Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.

* Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods, when necessary, in accordance with district requirements.

* Use technology to strengthen and enrich the learning process.

* Report to campus on time and remain on duty for the entire assignment, including the planning time of the teacher (conference period).
