Job Purpose

The AEC intern program is designed to provide firsthand working knowledge of environmental, health, and safety activities ironmental, Health and Safety Intern (EHS Intern) will be directly involved with all projects, activities, and events and responsible for helping meet expected deliverables to drive towards reducing environmental, health, and safety risk. The candidate will develop valuable problem-solving skills while assisting with the support of existing programs as well as the development of new procedures and processes.

  • Assist with Compliance Audits:
    Support the EHS team in conducting compliance audits to ensure adherence to environmental, health, and safety regulations and standards.
  • Data Collection and Analysis:
    Help collect and analyze data related to EHS performance metrics, including incidents, near misses, and environmental impact assessments.
  • Conduct Safety Inspections:
    Participate in safety inspections of facilities and equipment to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Assist in Training Programs:
    Support the development and delivery of EHS training programs for employees on topics such as safety procedures, emergency response, and environmental practices.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    Assist in maintaining accurate EHS documentation, including incident reports, safety data sheets, and training records, as well as preparing reports for management.
  • Support Environmental Programs:
    Help implement and monitor environmental programs, such as waste management, recycling initiatives, and energy conservation efforts.
  • Research Regulations and Best Practices:
    Conduct research on relevant EHS regulations, standards, and best practices to support ongoing compliance and improvement efforts.
  • Assist in Development and Implementation:
    Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of health and safety methods, policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Anticipate and Evaluate Risks:
    Assist in anticipating, evaluating, and developing risk-minimization solutions for hazardous conditions and practices.
  • Participate in Incident Investigations:
    Engage in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation to prevent recurrence of incidents.
  • Drive Improvements:
    Support improvements through the visual management process and facilitate the transactional flow of information throughout the facility.
  • Revise Safe Work Instructions:
    Help revise and develop a foundation for safe work instructions for operators of critical machines throughout the facility.
  • Assess Environmental Programs:
    Assist in assessing various environmental, health, and safety programs for gaps and perform corrective actions as directed by the Safety Manager (e.g., Lockout/Tagout updates, environmental chemical inventory).
  • Promote a Safety Culture:
    Engage with employees to promote a culture of safety and environmental stewardship throughout the organization.
  • Attend EHS Meetings:
    Participate in EHS meetings and committees, contributing ideas and insights to enhance safety and environmental initiatives.
  • Attendance is mandatory to ensure effective team collaboration and productivity.

Qualifications / Characteristics
  • Education:

    Currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of EHS Principles:
    Basic understanding of environmental, health, and safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Analytical

    Skills:

    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risks and develop effective solutions.
