Position Summary
Magellan Aerospace, New York has an exciting new opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer. The purpose of this position is to support and optimize aerospace machining and fabrication processes within a build-to-print manufacturing environment. The successful incumbent will work closely with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and both internal and external customers to manage changes and support efficient production. This position contributes to the production of high-precision aerospace components through process improvement, development of effective machining methods, and collaboration with CNC Programming and Manufacturing Engineering teams.
The role also partners with Production, Quality, NC Programming, Tool Design, and Planning to support on-time delivery, cost control, and compliance with aerospace quality standards.
This is a temporary, part-time position, with the possibility of extension. The hourly range for this position is $38.00 to $48.00 per hour.
- Maintain configuration control of customer and internal technical data, including drawings, specifications, CAD files, bills of material, and process documentation
- Ensure only current, approved revisions are released to manufacturing and external suppliers
- Manage document control systems and enforce data governance standards
- Coordinate and control engineering changes (ECOs/ECNs) initiated by internal teams or customers
- Communicate approved changes clearly to all affected stakeholders
- Effectively manage the Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process, ensuring proper review, approval, completion, and cross-functional support from all impacted departments
- Review and approve manufacturing plans, routers, and work instructions to ensure alignment with customer requirements and contractual obligations
- Verify compliance with drawings, specifications, tolerances, special processes, and inspection requirements
- Ensure traceability from customer requirements through manufacturing execution
- Support AS9100, ISO 9001, or other applicable quality system requirements related to document and configuration control
- Participate in audits, root cause analysis, and corrective actions related to data or configuration issues
- Ensure compliance with AS9100, AS9102 (FAI), customer requirements, and aerospace manufacturing best practices
- Work closely with engineers, machinists, and quality control teams to resolve technical issues and improve machining processes
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent in machine tool technology (required)
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in an aerospace manufacturing-related industry
- Experience in aerospace, defense, or medical device manufacturing is strongly preferred
- Ability to interpret GD&T, blueprints, and customer specifications
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Working knowledge of CATIA V5
- Familiarity with other CAD/CAM software is a plus
- Strong understanding of machining processes, materials, and quality control standards
- Strong knowledge of CNC machining and GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
- Hands-on experience with Lean manufacturing, SPC, and root-cause analysis tools (5-Why, Fishbone, 8D)
- Working knowledge of AS9100, AS9102 FAI requirements, and aerospace quality systems
- Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, 3D models, and technical specifications
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and optimize machining operations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective cross-functional collaboration
- High attention to detail and the ability to maintain strict standards of precision and quality
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, machinery, and potential hazards while adhering to all safety protocols
- Hands-on engineering support and frequent shop-floor presence required
- Occasional extended hours to support urgent production and customer deliverables
- Occasional travel may be required to support sister manufacturing sites
