Overview

Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineers to design and analyze mechanical components and systems for experimental hypersonic, aero‑thermal test rigs. Proficient in CAD and engineering principles to evaluate structural, thermal, and fluidic performance, and communicate findings through slides and documents.

Responsibilities
  • Execute the design, analysis, and evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles while adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and program or product requirements.
  • Apply cross‑functional knowledge of high‑speed fluid dynamics, mechanical systems, and thermal response to rapidly develop prototype hypersonic propulsion systems.
  • Develop mechanical systems from proof‑of‑concept to final manufacturable component using 3D CAD.
  • Perform analyses ranging from classical textbook methods and 1‑D spreadsheet calculations to finite element analysis (FEA) simulations to predict structural, thermal, and/or fluidic behavior of systems and components.
  • Prepare drawings for manufacturing prototypes or components of an experimental setup.
  • Document and communicate assumptions, inputs, and proposed solutions to multidisciplinary teams for review.
  • Support validation of new designs and technologies through benchtop and larger‑scale testing.
  • Prepare presentations and slides to communicate ideas and project progress.
  • Work effectively with Integrated Product Teams to create and verify novel design solutions that meet established program objectives and requirements (technical, cost, schedule).
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • 5+ years of design and analysis experience.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles and application to technical tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
  • Skilled in mechanical design using 3D CAD (Siemens NX or equivalent).
  • Skilled with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and PowerPoint.
Desired Characteristics
  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Experienced with FEA and performing simulations in ANSYS for thermal‑structural analysis.
  • Experience in the high‑speed aerospace propulsion industry.
  • Understanding of compressible flow.
  • Knowledge of prototype manufacturing development processes, including additive manufacturing (AM) and DFM, DFA, and DFAM techniques.
  • Knowledge of GD&T and application to engineering drawings.
  • Analytical problem solver who challenges existing processes and is a critical thinker.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
