Job Summary
At GE Aerospace, we invent the future of flight, lift people up and bring them home safely. Located in Bohemia, Long Island, New York, and Rockledge, Florida, GE Aerospace’s Hypersonics Center of Excellence builds on GE’s 125+ years of industrial research heritage coupled with Innoveering’s legacy of high‑speed air‑breathing propulsion system development, tackling the most challenging engineering problems through multi‑disciplinary teams to deliver innovative technologies.
Together, we create and sustain differentiated solutions to maintain competitive advantages for GE Aerospace and our customers.
As a Lead Engineer – Aerodynamics, you will focus on developing prediction methods and technologies to improve aerodynamic, aero‑acoustic, aero‑mechanical, and thermal performance for various GE Aerospace development programs. You will perform research and development for the next generation of aircraft engine and aerospace technologies and lead proof‑of‑concept ideas toward validated solutions.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary set of engineers to analyze compressible flows in supersonic and hypersonic flight conditions and use these analyses to drive design of flight and propulsion systems.
- Lead and participate in high‑fidelity computational analyses to guide design improvements in the fields of aerodynamics, aero‑mechanics and aero‑acoustics, using both Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations and multiphysics solvers.
- Document and communicate assumptions, inputs, and proposed solutions to multidisciplinary teams for review.
- Support validation of new designs and technologies through benchtop or larger‑scale testing.
- Prepare presentations and slides to communicate ideas and/or progress on projects.
- Work well with Integrated Product Teams to create and verify novel design solutions that meet established program objectives and requirements (technical, cost, schedule).
- Interact with industry partners and subcontractors to review aerodynamic analyses.
- Master’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering with a strong background in aerodynamics and both reacting and non‑reacting compressible flow.
- 3‑5 years of aerodynamics analysis experience of supersonic flows.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and ability to apply them to technical tasks.
- Ability to investigate, model and provide critical insight into complex physical flow phenomena.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Skilled in CFD, preferably using Pointwise, iCFD++ and Tecplot.
- Skilled with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance.
