Position Summary
As the site Safety Health & Environmental Specialist you are responsible for coordinating and executing safety, health and environmental programs. In this position you will interact with employees to ensure a culture of caring and accountability for safety, health and environmental conditions and behaviors. You will ensure compliance with regulations and company policies, routinely interact with employees on the site floor, and balance sophisticated assignments involving performance of daily audits/inspections.
Key Responsibilities- Provide overall input to site safety, health and environmental initiatives, strategies, programs and procedures; counsel, supervise, assess and implement actions to embed safety, health and environment as core values and engage employees in safe practices.
- Participate on the Facility SH&E Team and other assigned teams; coach and develop operations line supervision to become effective SH&E coaches.
- Analyze SH&E conditions and behaviors and recommend changes to continuously improve site performance to world‑class levels.
- Implement systems, procedures and work practices to maintain “audit ready” compliance.
- Develop and implement SOPs to ensure site compliance with company and regulatory agency policies, including federal, state and local legislation and regulations pertaining to SH&E; review engineering design, development reports and specifications for environmental compliance.
- Drive implementation of best‑in‑class SH&E programs, systems and processes, including training and coaching to establish clear procedures on SH&E measures and precautions.
- Lead effective, sustainable implementation of corporate, division and site SH&E initiatives, strategies and programs; manage worker’s compensation in partnership with risk management; understand job safety risks and environmental impacts site‑wide.
- Ensure thorough investigation of all incidents in coordination with Safety and Health site leadership; provide expertise in all SH&E incident investigations.
- Administer training programs for safety, accident prevention and protection; support environmental management systems.
- Promote a zero‑tolerance mentality toward SH&E losses and drive elimination of losses through continuous improvement.
- Provide SH&E functional and technical expertise/mentorship and partner with engineering, HR, quality, operations and other key functions to deliver on goals and plans.
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental and/or safety subject area or related field (or equivalent experience) with recent experience supporting a manufacturing or production environment.
- 1–5 years of experience in coordinating safety, health and environmental sustainability activities in a manufacturing setting.
- Experience with OSHA, DOT and EPA regulations and local equivalents and their application to site operations.
- Professional certifications in SH&E related fields (e.g., CIH, NEBOSH, ASP, AEM) are considered beneficial.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication and digital literacy skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills; ability to build teams across all levels and functions.
- Decision‑making capability in routine and emergency situations.
- Ability to coordinate and prioritize; quickly learn site‑relevant federal and state OSHA, EPA, DOT requirements.
- Technical writing skills for policies, procedures, reference manuals and training materials.
- Digital literacy in Microsoft Office and Windows‑based applications.
- Reading, comprehension and legal/regulatory interpretation skills; initiative to lead continuous improvement efforts.
The approximate pay range for this position is $78,000.00 to $90,000.00.
