Position Overview
Pet Vet Care Centers' Atlantic Coast New York Veterinary Specialists - Bohemia is seeking a Full-Time Veterinary Assistant (Day Shift) to support veterinarians and technicians with cleaning, feeding, exercising, grooming, preparing surgery suites, restraining patients, and clerical duties, while delivering quality care.
Key Responsibilities- Provide compassionate care to all patients
- Greet patients and owners and take vital signs
- Triage patients, perform physical exams, and administer medication under LVT supervision
- Calm anxious patients
- Assist with medication administration and restraint
- Perform laboratory tests and radiographs
- Operate and maintain hospital equipment (EKG, fluid pump, syringe pump, etc.)
- Fill prescriptions, calculate and administer medications, and maintain controlled drug logs
- Feed patients as prescribed, record appetites, and report abnormal conditions
- Communicate positively with clients
- Educate clients about insurance, wellness, and medicinal plans
- Maintain cleanliness of hospital, including equipment, kennels, and facilities, and perform laundry duties
- Provide baths and care for overnight patients, ensuring groomed releases
- Adhere to safety and wellness regulations
- Follow oral and written directions
- Maintain accurate medical records

- Promote hospital products and services and support organization
- Respond promptly to directions from DVM or LVT
- Perform other duties as assigned in specialty areas (dentistry, surgery, emergency, radiology, cardiology, neurology, internal medicine, etc.)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Emergency experience
- Must be 18 years of age or older
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 7 AM to 7 PM
