Accounting and Special Projects Manager

The Accounting and Special Projects Manager provides strategic accounting guidance, oversees internal audits and clean-up projects, and leads the special project staff. The role supports maintaining and restoring financial integrity for our clients through specialized financial structuring, restructuring, and cleanup objectives.

• Supervises and directs the Special Projects Specialist.
• Oversees reviews of historical bookkeeping records to identify errors, omissions, or inconsistencies.
• Collaborates with the internal team to manage and execute financial cleanup objectives.
• Directs cleanup of general ledger accounts, including reclassification, adjustments, and reconciliations.
• Leads reconstruction of financial statements and reports from incomplete or disorganized records.
• Maintains a clear audit trail for all changes during cleanup and forensic review processes.
• Provides oversight for complex month‑end and year‑end closing processes as needed.
• Creates training resources and leads sessions on topics such as payroll liabilities and balance sheet cleanup.
• Acts as a resource for troubleshooting accounting software issues.
• Offers guidance and support to client services teams for day‑to‑day book preparation.
• Conducts annual internal audits of each client’s accounting processes and financial statements.
• Completes onboarding review of client financial statements to assess position and effort required for books.
• Finalizes internal hand‑off review, implementing a checklist for client transition to services team.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
• Three to five years of accounting experience; experience with churches, ministries, or nonprofits is highly desirable.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.
• Proficiency with accounting, payroll, and invoice management software (Quick Books Online, , Gusto, Planning Center, Sub Splash, Google Workspace). Preference for Quick Books Online experience.

• Extensive knowledge of general and cost accounting.
• Understanding and application of generally accepted accounting principles.
• High proficiency with accounting software, especially Quick Books Online.
• Ability to reconcile payroll or financial data across platforms.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and consultation skills.
• Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, or similar software.

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
