Overview
Thanks to a recent promotion, the Library! At Collister is hiring for a Part-Time (20 hours/week) Library Assistant III. Library! At Collister – Serving the west Boise community since 2008, offers a welcoming neighborhood atmosphere with unique features including a seed library, extensive meeting rooms, and strong connections to diverse community populations.
As a Library Assistant III, you ll provide exceptional customer service through reader s advisory, circulation, reference, and technology support while working independently to maintain branch operations, mentor staff, and engage with our diverse community. This leadership role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in one of Boise s most valued public institutions.
Responsibilities- Assist library users with circulation, reference, readers advisory and other library services. Research user account information and resolve customer concerns tactfully, using discretion and initiative to meet customer needs.
- Maintain an advanced knowledge of library resources and practices. Assist the public with library computer use and related technology. Research user inquiries and explain policies and procedures.
- Perform proper library opening and closing procedures. Check in returned materials using library computer systems. Maintain library collections by accurately sorting and shelving materials. Process damaged or incomplete library materials. Order supplies for office and programs.
- Provide guidance, direction, and support for training for lower-level staff. In the absence of a librarian and supervisor/manager, coordinates day-to-day work, delegates tasks, and maintains branch operations.
- Perform moderately complicated tasks that require knowledge, including planning, publicizing and delivering in-house and outreach programs for users of all ages, as needed.
- Represent the library, participate in library-wide teams and city-wide system projects; collaborate with other branch staff to maintain and improve branch operations. Maintain awareness of current library trends and technologies.
- Utilize judgment, independent analysis and problem-solving to conduct administrative duties such as balancing the register and making bank deposits. Perform duties of lower-level related positions and handle complex issues; refer only the most complex issues to higher-level staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned. Management reserves the right to reassign duties and responsibilities as needed.
Education/Experience
:
High school diploma or equivalent and four years of experience in a library setting or directly related field, working with diverse populations, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Knowledge
- Customer service techniques and office software applications.
Ability
- Learn and use automated library systems
- Work independently and use initiative while performing duties
- Prioritize a broad range of administrative tasks
- Exercise tact, patience, diplomacy, cultural sensitivity and courtesy when dealing with customers
- Carry out day-to-day activities independently within established guidelines and procedures
- Communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance
- Perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor, and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation
Five years of experience in a public library or similar environment providing customer service to diverse populations. Specialized training or certification in relevant field.
