Tiello has partnered with a highly successful Structural Steel Engineering Firm in the Mountain West on their search for a Director of Construction for commercial structural steel fabrication and erection projects.
Role SummaryThe Director of Construction will provide strategic leadership and oversight for construction operations, guiding structural steel projects from preconstruction through execution and closeout. This individual will lead project management teams, oversee field operations, and ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong structural steel construction background, extensive experience with fabrication and erection, and a proven track record leading complex projects and multidisciplinary teams. This individual will work closely with estimating, engineering, detailing, fabrication, and erection teams while serving as a key liaison with owners, general contractors, engineers, subcontractors, and trade partners.

Job Responsibilities- Provide strategic leadership for the construction division and align operational objectives with company goals
- Lead project management teams and provide oversight of field construction and erection operations
- Direct the planning, scheduling, execution, and closeout of complex structural steel projects
- Oversee integration between detailing, fabrication, project management, and erection teams
- Own and optimize the company’s Model-to-Field delivery process
- Collaborate with technical and fabrication leadership to align digital models, fabrication readiness, and field installation sequencing
- Establish and monitor KPIs related to schedule performance, safety, quality, rework, customer satisfaction, milestone achievement, and profitability
- Present construction performance metrics, trends, and strategic recommendations to executive leadership
- Build and maintain strong relationships with owners, general contractors, engineers, subcontractors, and trade partners
- Partner with estimating and preconstruction teams to identify constructability opportunities, connection efficiencies, and value engineering solutions
- Provide expertise regarding erection methodologies, crane planning, site logistics, sequencing, and field execution strategies
- Review design models, shop drawings, and submittals to evaluate field feasibility and minimize RFIs and rework
- Ensure projects comply with engineering requirements, contract documents, project specifications, safety standards, and applicable codes
- Manage project budgets, forecasts, labor productivity, resource allocation, and overall financial performance
- Identify and resolve project challenges involving safety, scheduling, engineering, quality, manpower, and resources
- Monitor workforce utilization and proactively balance workloads across projects
- Implement and maintain quality control procedures for structural steel fabrication and erection activities
- Leverage BIM, 3D modeling, laser scanning, and other digital construction technologies to improve project delivery
- Standardize project management and detailing procedures in alignment with company best practices
- Audit project execution to ensure compliance with quality and operational standards
- Lead corrective action and continuous improvement initiatives
- Mentor, coach, and develop project managers, detailers, and construction personnel
- Conduct performance evaluations and identify opportunities for employee growth and advancement
- Support succession planning and development of future construction leadership
