Description

The Office of Species, Minerals, and Energy Coordination is currently recruiting for an Architectural Historian/National Register Coordinator for the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) located in Boise, .

The Architectural Historian/National Register Coordinator administers Idaho's National Register of Historic Places and Federal Rehabilitation Tax Credit (Historic Tax Credit) programs. The incumbent evaluates historic built environment properties for eligibility to the National Register of Historic Places, prepares and reviews nomination documentation, administers the Historic Tax Credit program in coordination with the National Park Service, conducts architectural research and survey activities, and provides technical assistance related to the National Register, historic preservation planning, and the Secretary of the Interior's Standards.

The Architectural Historian may occasionally conduct fieldwork and deliver public presentations on Idaho's historic built environment. This position is eligible for flexible work arrangements after 90 days, subject to the supervisor's discretion.

Job Responsibilities:

National Register of Historic Places

  • Manages the National Register of Historic Places for the State of Idaho
  • Establishes priorities for architectural nominations to the National Register of Historic Places
  • Evaluates historic built environment properties for eligibility to the National Register of Historic Places.
  • Provides technical guidance on preparing National Register nominations.
  • Researches, prepares, reviews, edits, and submits National Register nominations.
  • Plans, organizes, and conducts Idaho State Historic Sites Review Board meetings.
  • Coordinates with property owners, local governments, preservation partners, and the National Park Service throughout the nomination process.

  • Participates in the development of historic contexts and statewide architectural research initiatives
  • Analyzes architectural styles,building types, and historic properties
  • Provides technical guidance to government agencies, private citizens, consultants, and grant recipients conducting architectural surveys and preservation planning activities.
  • Participates in developing statewide architectural survey priorities, methodologies, and procedures.
  • Conducts or oversees architectural survey fieldwork and consultant projects.
  • Reviews Certified Local Government (CLG) survey products for completeness, accuracy, National Register eligibility, and compliance with Secretary of the Interior Standards.

Federal Rehabilitation Tax Credit Program(Historic Tax Credit)

  • Manages Federal Rehabilitation Tax Credit program for the State of Idaho
  • Serves as liaison between program applicants and National Park Service
  • Provides technical guidance to property owners and developers regarding program requirements and the Secretary of the Interior's Standards
  • Reviews rehabilitation plans and drawings for conformance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards
  • Conducts site visits with applicants, as appropriate
