Department Overview

Albertsons Library provides high-quality, relevant information resources and services to Boise State University students, faculty, staff, and the broader community. Centrally located on campus, the Library serves as a dynamic academic hub where scholarship is supported, ideas are explored, and connections are built.

The Library offers access to extensive electronic and physical collections; technology and creative making spaces; archival and university history materials; and a range of quiet and collaborative study environments. Librarians and staff provide instruction and research support in person, online, and in group settings. Through these services, the Library advances teaching, learning, and research across the university.

As Boise State University continues to strengthen its research enterprise and expand graduate education in STEM disciplines, the Library plays a central role in supporting faculty scholarship, externally funded research, and graduate student success.

The Instruction and Research Services Unit supports student learning and faculty research by guiding the Boise State community through today’s complex and evolving information landscape. Librarians teach across disciplines and in multiple formats, including course-integrated sessions, workshops, consultations, and online learning environments.

In addition to foundational instruction, the unit partners with faculty and graduate programs to support advanced research practices, disciplinary information fluency, and emerging areas such as data-informed scholarship, research impact, and open educational resources.

Since 2018, the unit has delivered foundational information literacy instruction through the asynchronous Research and Critical Inquiry Microcourse (RCIM), embedded within Boise State’s University Foundations program. More than 3,000 students complete the Canvas-based course annually to earn the “I am a Researcher” badge. Librarians reinforce and extend these skills through discipline‑specific instruction, advanced research consultations, and sustained engagement with graduate students and faculty research initiatives.
