Hours:

The Head Start Assistant Teacher assists the Head Start Teacher in creating a safe, engaging learning environment that supports Head Start Children’s Services components and integrates health, nutrition, transportation, disabilities, and family engagement. May serve as bus monitor when assigned.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with teachers and co‑workers to develop weekly learning activities and curriculum.
- Organize, inventory, clean, and prepare outside playground and inside classrooms; procure needed supplies.
- Maintain a positive and safe environment through positive communication, supervision, monitoring, and counting of children.
- Implement positive behavior support and intervention strategies to establish clear behavior expectations.
- Incorporate health and nutrition activities into daily curriculum using FOCAF Dental, FOCAF Health, FOCAF Bus Curriculum Second Step Early Learners, and Child Protection Unit resources.
- Demonstrate understanding of Head Start performance standards and child outcome requirements.
- Apply Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework and other policies in program activities.
- Step into a lead role when needed.
- Monitor child safety during bus routes and loading/unloading, ensuring proper release to authorized individuals.
- Provide health and nutrition education activities such as tooth brushing and hand washing.
- Attend meetings, conferences, workshops, trainings, and review the latest policies and practices.
- Communicate effectively with co‑workers, children, parents, and the public.
- Keep supervisors updated on work progress.
- Maintain frequent contact with families, including home visits and conferences to support partnership and communication.
- Collaborate weekly with the teaching team.
- Seek and participate in professional development opportunities.
- Engage in timely feedback exchanges and continuous improvement.
- At minimum:
Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or enrollment in a program leading to an Associate or Baccalaureate degree, or willingness to obtain a CDA within two years of hire. - Bilingual preferred.
- Former EHS or HS parent preferred.
- Completed and maintained Infant/Child CPR and First Aid certificates.
- Passed Health Physical Screen and TB test.
- Passed criminal background check meeting state, federal, and FOCAF Head Start standards.
- Passed drug test and subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
- Ability to complete training and maintain licensing for a Boise City Child Care Worker.
This is a non‑management, full‑time position.
