JOB STATUS: OPEN

POSITION TITLE: Special Education Assistant II - Structured Learning Center

Students with autism ages 6‑21 who require a high degree of structure to the design of their school program receive individual and small‑group instruction in a setting outside of the general classroom. Instruction in pre‑academic, academic, functional, communication, social, behavioral and independent living skills is provided on an individual and small‑group basis. Students assigned to these classrooms are included in general education classes and environments when appropriate.

These classrooms typically have 6‑8 students and several classroom assistants.

Once hired, you may be reassigned to another special education classroom or location depending on District need.

New-to‑District Classified employees may be eligible to receive credit for up to two years’ worth of credit for movement (steps) on the Classified Salary Schedule based on relevant prior work experience. Please complete the top portion of this form and provide it to your previous employer for completion. To qualify, newly hired employees must provide this form, completed by your former employer(s), to Human Resources no later than the date of their fingerprinting and appointment.

    Job Qualifications
    Competency Requirements
    Knowledge of
    • Curriculum modification and accommodation methods;
    • School and District rules, codes, standards, and expected student behaviors;
    • Educational procedures, including classroom management and testing accommodations;
    • Special Education methods and procedures for instructing students with moderate to severe physical, learning or emotional disabilities;
    Ability to
    • Follow written and oral instructions and observe District policies and procedures;
    • Demonstrate patience in working with students of varying abilities and disabilities;
    • Prepare and implement curriculum modifications;
    • Prepare and maintain records and documentation;
    • Work effectively with students of varied backgrounds and abilities;
    • Maintain student and District confidentiality;
    • Operate classroom instructional equipment, office equipment, and a computer using programs appropriate to assigned duties;
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers and staff members, and other District personnel;
    • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
    • Provide services that are billable through the Medicaid Health & Human Services Department.
    Job Responsibilities
    • Maintain student and district confidentiality;
    • Provide feedback to special education teacher concerning student performance in all goal areas;
    • Assist and/or accompany students at school‑based social situations and various school activities;
    • Provide student supervision as detailed in the IEP and as directed by the special education teacher;
    • Provide job coaching to students at job sites for students (secondary);
    • Assist teacher or related service provider in maintaining assistive, adaptive or medical equipment;
    • Complete district training based upon Idaho Paraprofessional Standards;
    • Ensure student safety through district approved de‑escalation and physical intervention programs or training;
    • Implement Assistive Technology devices and equipment;
