Position: Boise State University – – Science & Engineering Librarian (Tenure-Track Faculty)

Science & Engineering Librarian (Tenure‑Track Faculty)

A 12‑month, tenure‑track faculty position in the Instruction and Research Services Unit at Albertsons Library, Boise State University.

The successful candidate will serve as the subject librarian for science and engineering departments, providing specialized research, instructional, and scholarly support to undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, and staff. The librarian will design and deliver course‑integrated instruction, provide in‑depth research consultations, and support disciplinary research practices in STEM fields. The role contributes to the development and assessment of the Library’s online Research and Critical Inquiry Microcourse (RCIM) and plays an active part in advancing student learning, faculty research, and graduate education.

The librarian will also participate in reference services and engage in library and university initiatives aligned with Boise State’s research and teaching mission.

Essential Functions
  • Serve as subject librarian to assigned science and/or engineering departments, building strong partnerships with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Design and maintain course‑integrated and stand‑alone instruction for undergraduate and graduate students in science and engineering programs.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development, revision, and assessment of the Research and Critical Inquiry Microcourse (RCIM).
  • Engage in point‑of‑need research assistance and provide science and engineering subject‑specific research consultations for faculty, staff, and students in person and online.
  • Work collaboratively with library colleagues on initiatives that support the library’s and university’s mission and goals.
  • Support state and university affordable learning initiatives.
  • Improve librarianship practices through professional development and implement relevant advances in academic librarianship.
  • Engage in professional service at the library, university, community, and state/regional/national/international levels.

Minimum Qualifications
  • American Library Association‑accredited master’s degree or a comparable graduate degree from a non‑U.S. university (reviewed on a case‑by‑case basis).
  • Experience working directly with students in an academic setting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience providing instruction and/or research support for science and/or engineering departments at the college or university level.
  • Experience creating online learning objects such as Lib Guides, videos, and/or modules in an LMS such as Canvas or Blackboard.
  • Experience with information literacy instruction in an academic library.
  • Familiarity with science and engineering research tools and resources (subject databases, citation managers, data repositories, patents, standards, technical reports, GIS data).
  • Experience with or understanding of evidence synthesis research methods.
  • Experience with or understanding of data management practices, open science, open data, and research reproducibility issues in science and/or engineering.
  • Undergraduate degree, graduate degree, or significant coursework in a science and/or engineering field.

Salary and Benefits

The annual salary begins at $65,000 and is commensurate with experience. This is a yearly, renewable 12‑month contract in a tenure‑track position. More information about faculty contracts and workdays is available here.
