Position Overview
The Department of Psychological Science at Boise State University invites applicants for an Assistant Professor position starting Fall 2026. The role involves teaching undergraduate courses in cognitive psychology, biological psychology, learning, sensation, and perception; maintaining an active research program; and participating in service activities to the department and community.
TeachingStandard teaching load of 1–3 courses per semester, with flexibility in modality and scheduling. Expected to use evidence‑based and inclusive teaching practices.
ResearchApplicants must have a research program that can produce at least three peer‑reviewed publications (at least one first‑author) within five years preceding the application. Must demonstrate or have potential for managing undergraduate research assistants and for involving undergraduates in research.
ServiceParticipation in departmental, college, university, and community service activities.
Qualifications- Earned doctorate in cognitive psychology by August 1, 2026 (ABD considered pending conferral by this date).
- Experience teaching at the undergraduate level.
- Experience or clear potential for managing a research program involving undergraduate research assistants.
- Experience with evidence‑based teaching practices.
- Demonstrated success or potential in teaching, research, and service.
- Established research program involving undergraduate students.
- Positive student course evaluations or other evidence of effective teaching.
- Experience teaching desired courses (cognitive psychology; secondarily biological psychology, learning, sensation, and perception).
- Breadth of teaching experience across class sizes and modalities.
- A cover letter outlining interests and qualifications related to teaching, research, and service.
- A current CV with contact information for three professional references.
- Research statement, including plan to involve undergraduates.
- Teaching statement, including discussion of implementation or preparation for evidence‑based teaching practices.
- Summary of teaching effectiveness (e.g., evaluations, observations).
9‑month contract starting at $63,000, commensurate with experience, plus start‑up funding for research. Benefits include medical, dental, and other coverages.
