Position: Boise State University – – Open Rank / Open Track Faculty in Counselor Education

Overview

The Counselor Education program at Boise State University invites applications for an open‑rank, open‑track faculty position in Counselor Education with a specialization in school counseling, clinical mental health counseling, and/or addiction counseling. The appointment will commence in Fall 2026 and may result in an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor on a Tenure or Clinical track.

Responsibilities
  • Teach a variety of counseling courses, including core Counselor Education courses and PhD‑level courses in Counselor Education and Supervision (CES).
  • Mentor and advise MA students; tenure‑track faculty also mentor PhD students in CES.
  • Coordinate a school counseling cognate, addiction counseling cognate, or in‑house practicum lab.
  • Engage in service activities at the University, College, Department, community, and professional levels.
  • For tenure‑track candidates: conduct research and develop a strong scholarly agenda in Counselor Education and Supervision or a closely related field, including seeking external funding.
Workload & Expectations

Tenure‑Track Faculty:
Standard workload is 60% teaching, 20% scholarship, and 20% service (commonly represented as a 9‑3‑3 load). Adjustments will be made based on research productivity, coordination duties, and service responsibilities, as negotiated with the Chair and approved by the Dean.

Clinical Faculty:
Standard workload is 80% teaching and 20% service. Adjustments will be made to account for coordination and service activities, in consultation with the Chair and with approval from the Dean.

Qualifications
  • An earned doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP‑accredited program prior to August 2026, or having served as a full‑time faculty member in a Counselor Education program for at least one full academic year before July 1, 2013.
  • Background in counseling (clinical experience working with children, adolescents, and/or adults), school counseling, or addiction counseling.
  • Evidence of effective teaching and supervision in a CACREP‑accredited program in Counselor Education or equivalent.
  • For Tenure‑Track:
    Demonstrated potential for a strong research agenda, including publications and evidence of pursuit of internal and external funding commensurate to rank.
  • Strong desire to develop community partnerships with schools, community agencies, and internal stakeholders.
  • Experience or potential to contribute to coordination of the training practicum lab and/or cognate area and to participate in departmental, college, university, and professional service.
  • Ability to obtain License as Professional Counselor (LPC) in Idaho by Fall 2026.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience collaborating with other academic departments, centers or institutes, mental health agencies, schools, and/or multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience coordinating practicum labs or clinical placements.
