Job Summary

Provide education and developmentally appropriate activities necessary to meet the objectives of the Friends of Children and Families Head Start Children’s Services component, integrating health, nutrition, transportation, disabilities, and family service/parent involvement components as they relate directly to children and families.

Essential Functions
  • Plan and implement required curricula and meet state, local, federal, and organizational requirements.
  • Observe, document, assess, and provide regular data reports for parents and staff regarding the child’s developmental level, attendance, IEP meetings, and any other pertinent information.
  • Attend meetings, conferences, workshops, trainings, review audio‑visual materials, and publications to remain current with policies and practices.
  • Create a positive and safe environment for children using positive communication and active supervision at all times.
  • Provide a consistent behavior environment through implementation of positive behavior supports and interventions.
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure organization, inventory, cleaning, and preparation of classrooms and playground areas and acquire needed supplies to support the curriculum.
  • Maintain frequent contact with families, including home visits and conferences, to promote partnership and ongoing communication.
  • Mentor assistant teachers.
  • Plan and implement Family Fun Nights and PAWS once a month with the center team.
  • Demonstrate clear understanding of Children’s Services policies, Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework, procedures, and guidance and implement these in program activities.
  • Integrate health and nutrition into daily curriculum through consistent implementation of Color Me Healthy, FOCAF Dental, FOCAF Health, FOCAF Bus Curriculum, Second Step Early Learners, and Child Protection Unit.
  • Provide health and nutrition education activities for children, including classroom food experience, tooth‑brushing, and hand washing.
  • Plan and conduct field trips within the local community once a month.
  • Effectively respond, communicate, and present information to co‑workers, families/caregivers, community representatives, clients, vendors, and the general public.
  • Exhibit general social skills and the ability to get along well with others.
  • Keep immediate supervisor and designated individuals fully and accurately informed about work progress.
  • Prioritize and adjust to the changing demands of the position.
  • Handle and adapt to stressful situations.
  • Understand and apply Head Start performance standards and child outcome requirements.
  • Meet daily and weekly with the teaching team to collaborate.
Qualifications
  • Associate, bachelor's, or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development; or
  • Associate, bachelor's, or advanced degree in any related field with coursework equivalent to a major in early childhood education (18 semester college credits) and experience teaching preschool‑aged children.
  • Complete and maintain certificates for Infant/Child CPR and First Aid.
  • Pass a health physical screen and TB test.
  • Pass a criminal background check meeting required state, federal, and FOCAF Head Start standards.
  • Pass a drug test and submit to random drug and/or alcohol testing.
  • Have a valid driver’s license and current automobile insurance if local travel is required.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Former or current EHS or HS parent preferred.
