Fall Environmental Educator

Bogus Basin's Environmental Education program is seeking an energetic and knowledgeable field instructor to engage local youth in a variety of fall field trip themes. The Fall Environmental Educator will lead on site field trips at Bogus Basin for k-12th grade students that involve hiking and a variety of hands-on activities. Other tasks will include but are not limited to, lesson planning, leading outreach lessons in classrooms or other outdoor locations, collaborating with teachers and volunteers, leading volunteer events for adults, maintaining lodge equipment and materials, and assisting with stewardship and sustainability projects such as waste diversion efforts, invasive species control, trail maintenance, habitat restoration work, and more.

Each program day will start with a specific content focus designed to engage youth in hands-on, place-based activities. Content topics will range from a specific ecology theme to safe and responsible outdoor recreation. The goal of this program is to connect students to the natural world. We hope to foster the next generation of ecologists, land managers, environmental stewards, and more who will stand for access and preservation of our public lands and the world around them.

The Fall Environmental Educator will be trained to lead students through educational activities, mentored on how to provide positive learning experiences for children in a field trip setting, encouraged to create activities of their own interest that fit into our curriculum, and expected to positively redirect students' behavior when necessary.

This is a full-time seasonal position. 40 hours a week Monday-Friday. Typical daily hours are 8:30am-4:30pm. Position starting 8/17/2026 and ending 11/20/26. Start and end date may be flexible.

Transportation is provided up and down the mountain from the Harrison Hollow parking lot.

Duration: 8/17/2026 through 11/20/26

This includes work with fall field trips, outreach programs, and on mountain stewardship and sustainability projects.

Position is not eligible for paid holidays and there aren't any during this time range.

Essential functions of the job include:

• Thoughtfully plan and organize lessons and activities.
• Lead and set up a variety of youth based activities.
• Lead and engage groups in environmental education activities in a variety of settings including a mountain forest environment and classrooms.
• Teach on the trail and spend the day outdoors in a variety of weather.
• Positively redirect misbehavior when necessary.
• Create a safe learning environment.
• Maintain a professional attitude toward all students, staff, supervisors, volunteers, and other departments.
• Work as a team with other field instructors to carry out programming.
• Maintain hiking trails, work on habitat restoration projects, and sustainability initiatives such as waste diversion efforts.
• Organize and manage the indoor and outdoor teaching spaces, equipment, tools, and other materials.

Non-essential functions of the job include:

• Perform other duties, as required.

Job requirements include:

• Passionate about Bogus Basin's mission.
• Ability to work with people of all ages, especially children. Have a strong interest in nature education, and educating youth (3rd – 12th grade).
• Need to be reliable, flexible, creative, enthusiastic, enjoy working with children, and have some experience teaching.
• Ability to make sound decisions under stressful situations.
• Demonstrated ability to perform multiple tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
• Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
• Ability to pass a background check.
• Ability to perform essential duties efficiently and accurately, with or without supervision, and without injury to incumbent or others.
