The K-12 English Language Arts (ELA) and Literacy Coordinator at the Idaho Department of Education provides statewide leadership, coordination, and support for English Language Arts and literacy initiatives across all grade levels. The position serves as the Department’s lead for K-12 English Language Arts and supports the implementation of statewide literacy initiatives, including literacy and the Idaho SMART Program. This position oversees the development and implementation of Idaho Content Standards for English Language Arts and supports high-quality instructional practices through professional learning, technical assistance, curriculum support, and instructional resource development.
The coordinator works collaboratively with local education agencies, institutions of higher education, and external partners to strengthen literacy instruction and improve student outcomes. Working additionally under the direction of the Program Manager for Literacy, Dyslexia, and the Idaho SMART Program, this position assists in the implementation, coordination, and continuous improvement of statewide literacy initiatives by supporting educator training, technical assistance, program implementation, data collection, contract activities, and stakeholder engagement.
The position requires deep expertise in English Language Arts and the ability to support literacy development, reading, writing, speaking, listening, language development, and evidence-based instructional practices. This is a full-time position serving under an appointment of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Serve as the state lead and subject matter expert for K-12 English Language Arts (ELA), with support for statewide literacy initiatives.
· Lead and support the development, review, and implementation of Idaho Content Standards in these content areas.
· Provide guidance, technical assistance, and support to school districts and public charter schools in curriculum, instruction, assessment, intervention, and program implementation.
· Oversee and lead the design, coordination, and delivery of professional development to strengthen educator knowledge and instructional practice.
· Provide leadership in the development and maintenance of guidance documents, instructional resources, tools that support educators in implementing high-quality instruction, and website content to support educators and local education agencies.
· Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of data related to these content areas, including program evaluation and continuous improvement efforts.
· Coordinate statewide initiatives, partnerships, and stakeholder engagement related to these content areas.
