Senior Mechanical / Chemical Designer

OverviewAs a Senior Mechanical / Chemical Designer, you will support a cutting-edge, high-tech manufacturing facility in Boise, Idaho. This role plays a key part in expanding and optimizing facility operations to support growing production needs. You'll work closely with engineers, project coordinators, and construction trades in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
This position is heavily field-focused, requiring regular on-site presence to assess existing conditions, perform field verifications, and translate real-world observations into accurate as-built and design documentation. Using AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks, you will develop high-quality 2D and 3D drawing packages that support design, construction, and operational excellence across the facility.

Key Responsibilities- Serve as a senior-level designer supporting mechanical and chemical/process systems within a high-tech manufacturing environment
- Perform regular field walks to verify existing conditions and ensure alignment between field observations, specifications, and design intent
- Develop, verify, and update comprehensive as-built and design drawings, including:
- Piping layouts and routing
- Equipment layouts
- Schedules and plans
- Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
- Flow diagrams for gas-side and water-side systems (HVAC, hydronics, fire protection)
- Produce clear, accurate 2D and 3D Revit drawing packages in accordance with site standards
- Create isometric drawings to support field installation and constructability
- Develop custom installation details for complex system components
- Support design changes, cost-reduction initiatives, and manufacturability improvements
- Conduct punch-list walks on completed projects to verify compliance with design intent
- Provide drafting and documentation support for vendor submittals, drawing control, and engineered system designs (including tanks and vessels as applicable)
- Review and apply applicable codes, standards, and specifications throughout the design process
- Coordinate with all engineering disciplines to resolve design conflicts and interface with existing field conditions
- Participate in internal and external design reviews, mechanical meetings, and project status updates
- Assist leadership with task breakdowns, workload estimates, and hour forecasting as needed
- Train, lead, and mentor junior designers or staff new to the project
- 10-15+ years of progressive CAD drafting and design experience supporting mechanical and/or chemical/process systems
- Extensive experience using AutoCAD and Revit for modeling and drafting
- Strong proficiency with Navisworks for model review and coordination
- Experience designing building mechanical systems in semiconductor or similar high-tech manufacturing facilities
- Demonstrated ability to lead wet-side or dry-side design efforts on large programs
- Thorough understanding of applicable mechanical, process, and building codes and standards
- Proven ability to work independently in an onsite, field-based environment
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering, construction, and operations teams
