Position: Experienced Technician, Design Support (Renewables)

Overview

This Opportunity WSP is currently initiating a search for an Experienced Technician, Design Support (Renewables) to join our Power & Energy team. Location options include Cottonwood Heights, UT;
Boulder, CO;
Boise, ;
Billings, MT;
Denver, CO; and Houston, TX.

The candidate will be involved in projects with our Power & Energy Team and be part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. WSP is a leading global consulting firm focused on energy transition, with expertise in power delivery, power generation, and project management.

Takes part in providing technical design and CADD support on projects to produce designs and specifications used for planning, transportation, infrastructure, and technical services. Responsibilities include generating CADD designs on projects of moderate scale and/or complexity and producing design phase deliverables such as reports, memoranda, design manuals, plans, models, sections, details, specifications, and material lists. Ensure deliverables meet industry standards for design, accuracy, and functionality.

Impact
  • Collect, compile, and analyze data from the site, surveys, blueprints, schematics, and other specifications to support drafting and design activities.
  • Use 3D computer-aided design software and collaborate with engineers to resolve design details or discrepancies and prepare precise drawings for projects of basic to moderate complexity.
  • Follow standard practices to provide technical design assistance ensuring proper illustration, fit, form, and function using geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and quantity calculations.
  • Verify accuracy of calculations, designs, change orders, and interpretations of contract plans, escalating issues as needed.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to execute project work.
  • Assure plans adhere to city, state, and federal regulations.
  • Prepare multiple design versions for review by engineers.
  • Ensure specifications of dimensions, materials, and procedures meet contract requirements.
  • Collaborate with the engineer-in-charge and other professionals on project phases, checks, and tasks.
  • Apply analytical techniques and software to solve moderately complex engineering issues or modify designs to project standards.
  • Engage in occasional contact with client and contractor personnel to schedule and coordinate drafting and design support reviews.
  • Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant post-education experience in the discipline with prior drafting and design support experience.
  • Knowledge of drafting and design support principles, practices, processes, methods, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of relevant codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Ability to perform technical computations using geometry and mathematical concepts, interpret plans and specifications, and compare to standards.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interactions with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Self-leadership with attention to detail, multitasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Analytical mindset with sound judgment for evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Proficiency in technical writing, office software, math principles, spreadsheets, and related tools.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to apply technical knowledge to data, calculations, and analysis.
  • Proven track record of workplace safety and adherence to health, safety, and harassment policies.
  • Ability to adapt to project-specific schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project needs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree in a closely related discipline is preferred.
  • Essential professional licensure/certification.
