Role Overview

The Wet Mechanical Construction Manager (CM) will work closely with the General Contractor Project Manager and establish an immediate and close relationship with the wet mechanical vendors and subcontractors to gain a complete understanding of the system scope, drawings and specifications, materials, ancillary scope requirements, and general project objectives.

The CM will bring best practices and innovative experience to the project that facilitate efficiencies in design, construction, quality, and commissioning through operational turnover.

The Wet Mechanical CM will focus on process piping systems, hydronic systems, and plant utilities, ensuring that installation, testing, and commissioning align with the project's safety, quality, and schedule objectives.

Responsibilities

Construction Management
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the Client's requirements for the wet mechanical scope, including:
    • Budget, quality standards, schedule milestones.
  • Advise and issue notices on behalf of the Client regarding procedures and contractual matters.
  • Develop and maintain key project tracking tools:
    • Track critical tasks, responsibilities, and deadlines.
    • Identify and track major schedule milestones.
    • Procurement Log - Track major equipment and OFCI equipment deliveries
  • Establish strong working relationships with architects, engineers, consultants, vendors, trade contractors.
  • Maintain alignment with the Client's goals, schedule constraints, operational requirements.
  • Evaluate options related to:
    • Mechanical system design
    • Utility distribution strategies
    • Facility expansion and phased growth.
  • Work closely with GC Superintendents to promote a strong safety culture in field operations.
  • Review the Master Project Schedule to ensure:
    • Mechanical procurement timelines are accurate
    • Installation sequencing supports project milestones.
  • Assist the PM in evaluating contractor claims related to schedule impacts, cost impacts, a scope changes.
Vendor Management
  • Conduct regular coordination meetings with wet mechanical vendors, trade contractors, and engineering partners.
  • Monitor vendor performance to ensure alignment with:
    • Safety standards
    • Quality expectations
    • Project schedule requirements.
Budget Management
  • Assist with maintaining the Wet Mechanical Cost Report, including contract values, approved change orders, and pending change orders.
  • Support cost evaluations related to:
    • Mechanical scope adjustments
    • Design modifications
    • Field conditions impacting installation.
Schedule Management
  • Evaluate and recommend alternative schedules or sequencing strategies to improve project performance.
  • Review labor productivity reports and assess opportunities for schedule acceleration.
  • Ensure alignment between: mechanical procurement, fabrication, installation and testing and commissioning activities.
  • Identify risks impacting mechanical installation timelines and recommend mitigation strategies.
Project Reporting
  • Provide regular updates to the Project Manager regarding issues impacting mechanical design, specifications, cost, schedule, and commissioning readiness.
  • Participate in coordination meetings with client, vendore, and contractors
  • Prepare project status updates including installation progress and key risks and mitigation plans
Construction Execution Phase
  • Monitor construction activities to ensure installations follow schedule, procedures, and quality standards
  • Lead weekly progress meetings
  • Serve as the on-site liaison between the Client and mechanical contractors.
  • Review construction procedures from staging plans, installation, and trade coordination strategies
  • Facilitate coordination between trades to ensure proper integration of piping systems
  • Monitor vendor reporting systems to ensure project completion milestones remain achievable.
