Substation Team Lead

HDR Engineering is looking for a Substation Team Lead to join our growing and nationally ranked team of Power Delivery professionals.

The primary role of a Substation Team Lead includes managing all aspects of substation engineering projects of all sizes and complexity, including scope and/or proposal development, project team development and assignment, project execution, project closeout, and quality control, schedule, and budget management. You will also supervise and grow a local team of engineers and technicians to support projects and engage in business development activities to support existing and new clients in the region.

• Be responsible for establishing the Power Delivery relationship with one or more local, key clients, overseeing project execution, driving quality and delivery, providing technical leadership, marketing new opportunities, and achieving profitability to meet business objectives.
• Supervise and grow a local substation team of engineers and designers, overseeing workload, quality, utilization, team morale, training, and performing annual performance reviews.
• Understand basic project management tools and techniques including client goals, contract types, risk, work breakdown structures, scope, schedule, budget, financial management and controls, earned value, and project closeout.
• Collaborate with substation team members across the region and nationally to balance staff workload, quality, utilization, morale, and training.
• Establish relationships with technical peers in other offices and leverage these relationships for work‑sharing opportunities.
• Coordinate with marketing and technical leadership for business development.
• Thoroughly understand and implement HDR Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements, processes, and procedures.
• May oversee non‑engineering components of projects, including public involvement, environmental permitting, right‑of‑way acquisition, construction management, and related services.
• Work independently and may direct, mentor, train, and/or supervise one or more Project Engineers, Engineers in Training, and junior design staff.
• Perform client management, project management, and/or technical support activities.
• Represent HDR to support marketing and proposal development for new opportunities.
• Some travel for business development and execution may be required.
• Perform other duties as needed.

• Project Management Professional (PMP) credential or the ability to obtain one is desired.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred.
• Familiarity with Idaho‑based utilities is desired.

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience.
• Professional registration, license, or certification may be required based on the role.
• Strong communication and listening skills.
• Ability to handle multiple assignments.
• Good leadership and organizational skills.
