Overview

For over 25 years, National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions) has specialized in connecting experienced workers (ages 55+) with full-time and part-time job opportunities that support the critical missions of Federal Agencies across the United States.

NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the National Park Service (NPS). These experienced professionals provide administrative expertise, facilities management, natural and cultural resource planning, and a broad array of other professional skills that support the National Park Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP).

Positions listed here do not guarantee employment for any definite period. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an at-will relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee.

Qualifications
  • BA/BS Degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Fire Safety Engineering, Fire Protection Administration, Fire Services Administration, or related field with minimum additional experience of 8 year(s) in Structural Fire Protection-related discipline. Mastery of the concepts, principles, and theory of fire physics and propagation of structural fire to serve as a subject matter specialist with regard to the design and implementation of fire prevention suppression plans and tactics.

    Knowledge of, or ability to research and provide interpretation of fire, life-safety, and building code requirements and other regulations with regards to operational features and hazards present by various types architectural design and building use. Ability to recognize and evaluate existing and proposed modifications to building conditions and circumstances for the purpose of making recommendations to reduce ignition sources and life-safety hazards and to mitigate property damage resulting from either fire or suppression efforts.

    In-depth knowledge of accepted structural fire prevention techniques, principles, technologies, and methods with regard to fire suppression tactics, prevention programs, investigations, and inspections. Working knowledge of cultural landscape concepts, historic structure design, architecture, construction, materials, and fabric as related to building preservation, fire prevention, and structural protection. Ability to review and interpret engineering, architectural, and construction plans to make recommendations for the inclusion of appropriate fire and life-safety measures and protection systems required to ensure an appropriate level of life safety and property protection.

    Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with technical experts, engineers, managers, public officials, and lay personnel concerning structural fire protection and related issues. Comprehensive knowledge of current developments concerning fire prevention, protection, and suppression equipment and methodologies and technologies and the ability to incorporate these developments to meet long‑range management objectives.
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint.

  • Enrollee reviews construction plans, equipment, materials, and installation and provides comments to the fire code official (FCO).
