Job Description & How to Apply Below

About Your Role

Data Airflow engineers the flow of data and air through complex infrastructure, delivering mission-critical data center cooling and related engineered systems. The Project Engineer provides the technical and coordination backbone that keeps our projects moving from design through commissioning and supports our project managers in the execution of our data center projects. This role translates engineered designs into executable field work, tracks scope, schedule, and budget, coordinates submittals and RFIs, and serves as the connective tissue between our engineering, commissioning, procurement, and project management teams.

This is a growth role built for someone early in an engineering or construction management career who wants full project lifecycle exposure in a fast-paced, 24/7 mission-critical environment. This role reports to Mark Azzarello, Project Executive, and is based onsite in Boise, Idaho, with periodic travel to out-of-state project sites (approximately 25% of the month, or one week per month).

What

You’ll Do (Job Responsibilities) Project Coordination & Support
  • Support project managers across the full project lifecycle, from planning and design through construction, commissioning, and closeout.
  • Maintain project documentation, including drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, meeting minutes, and change orders.
  • Track project scope, schedule, and budget, flagging risks and deviations to the project manager early.
  • Coordinate with engineering, commissioning, procurement, and field teams to keep deliverables aligned and on schedule.
Technical Execution
  • Review engineered designs and specifications and translate them into clear, executable field work packages.
  • Prepare and process submittals, requests for information (RFIs), and technical documentation.
  • Support the specification, procurement, and tracking of long-lead equipment such as CRAH/CRAC units, chillers, pumps, and related mechanical systems.
  • Assist with commissioning activities, including test planning, documentation, and issue tracking through resolution.
Collaboration & Communication
  • Serve as a coordination point between internal teams, contractors, vendors, and clients.
  • Provide regular project status updates to the project manager and stakeholders.
  • Support client-facing meetings and site walks, representing Data Airflow with professionalism and precision.
  • Ensure work is performed in compliance with safety standards, industry best practices, and applicable codes.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, construction management, or a related field (equivalent experience considered).
  • 0–4 years of experience in engineering, construction, or a project-support role, preferably in mission‑critical, mechanical, or data center environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications across mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines.
  • Strong organization and documentation skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); familiarity with project scheduling tools, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, or Visio is a plus.
  • Clear written and verbal communication and the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to prioritize in a complex, fast‑paced environment and work both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in data center, mission‑critical, or industrial mechanical/HVAC projects.
  • Familiarity with data center cooling systems, including:
    • Chilled water and CRAH/CRAC systems.
    • Evaporative and rear‑door heat exchanger cooling.
    • In‑row, direct‑to‑chip, or immersion liquid cooling.
  • Exposure to commissioning processes and documentation.
  • Progress toward EIT, PE, or PMP; ASHRAE involvement a plus.
What We Offer
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Flexible PTO and 10 paid holidays.
  • Training assistance program: up to $2,500 per year toward EIT, PE, or professional certifications.
Physical & Site Requirements
  • Ability to work in construction and operating facility environments, including active data center sites.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required on site.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Employment is subject to Data Airflow’s drug‑free workplace policy, including pre-employment testing.

Data Airflow is a proud Equal Opportunity Employer.
