Responsibilities

* Lead the mechanical engineering design for hospitals, clinical labs, and outpatient healthcare facilities, with a focus on high-performance HVAC and plumbing systems.

* Design complete HVAC and plumbing systems from start to finish with minimal guidance, ensuring a high standard of quality and compliance with applicable codes and regulations.

* Develop designs for industry-standard HVAC systems, including VAV systems, VRF systems, heat pumps, and packaged rooftop units, tailored to healthcare and laboratory environments.

* Perform hydronic piping design, including pump selection, pipe sizing, and layout for efficient and reliable system operation.

* Conduct duct sizing and fan selection to meet airflow, pressure, and acoustic requirements for healthcare and laboratory facilities.

* Use heating and cooling load calculation software to accurately size equipment and systems based on building usage and environmental conditions.

* Create plumbing system designs, including coordination with other disciplines and integration with medical gas systems when applicable.

* Apply mechanical and plumbing building codes to all designs, ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and alignment with industry best practices.

* Write clear and comprehensive specifications for mechanical systems on a variety of project types and scales.

* Collaborate closely with peers, drafters, and multidisciplinary project teams to produce high-quality construction documents for large and complex projects.

* Provide a high level of client service, including responsive communication, thoughtful technical solutions, and proactive project leadership.

* Proficiency in the design of industry-standard HVAC systems such as VAV systems, VRF systems, heat pumps, and packaged rooftop units.

* Ability to independently design HVAC and plumbing systems from concept through completion with a high standard of quality and minimal guidance.

* Experience with hydronic piping design, pump selection, duct sizing, and fan selection.

* Experience using heating and cooling load calculation software to support accurate system sizing.

* Hands-on experience with plumbing system design for commercial and healthcare projects.

* Strong knowledge and application of mechanical and plumbing building codes.

* Experience writing detailed specifications for mechanical projects.

* Ability to collaborate effectively with peers, drafters, and multidisciplinary project teams to produce high-quality construction documents.

* Demonstrated ability to provide a high level of client service in a consulting or project-based environment.
