* Idaho Power - headquartered in vibrant Boise, Idaho - is looking for a _Metering Engineer_ to join our Methods and Materials team. Our work plays a critical role in communities we serve across Idaho and Oregon, and we're working hard to safely provide our customers with the safe, reliable, affordable energy they depend on.
** What does a Metering Engineer do for us?*
* Operating under minimal supervision and using independent initiative, the Metering Engineer is responsible for the meter hardware and software systems, application of metering technology, and problem resolution for all critical metering systems that ensure accurate energy consumption data that directly determines revenue for the Company. This position will be based at Idaho Power's Boise Operations Center.
This position is responsible for:
+ Developing technical specifications, guidelines, and work methods for the design and construction of electric metering systems
+ Researching and approving new metering equipment and materials
+ Staying current with industry standards, trends, and enhancements in metering equipment, materials, and tools, and make changes to improve safety, reliability, and/or efficiency
+ Programming revenue grade meters and associated communications systems
+ Implementing and improving quality controls to ensure revenue metering is accurate and timely
+ Providing consultation, guidance, and training to field employees, designers, customers, and other key stakeholders to ensure that proper electric metering design and construction practices are followed
They also:
+ Plan and lead projects, assignments and technical investigations
+ Act as a liaison between other departments and organizations
+ Evaluate progress and results, recommending changes in procedures
+ Exercise moderate technical judgment in decision-making and independent action
+ Are responsible for budgeting, financial accountability and timelines on assigned projects
+ Utilize industry and discipline related knowledge to interpret and comply with regulations as required by NESC, OSHA, NEC, ANSI, IEEE, EUSERC, CAISO, etc.
** Engineer I:*
* Operating under general supervision and with oversight, an Engineer I is developing technical expertise in their field. This role plans and leads assignments and projects, may interface with internal departments and external organizations, and receives guidance from leaders and other engineers as needed.
** Engineer II:*
* Operating under limited supervision, an Engineer II has an intermediate level of technical expertise in their field. This role plans and leads moderately complex assignments and projects, interfaces with internal departments and external organizations, and receives high-level guidance from leaders and other engineers as needed.

** A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE*
* ** Knowledge of:*
* + General engineering principles
+ Comprehensive, specific, and progressive knowledge related to discipline
** Preferred:*
* + Excellent knowledge of electrical engineering principles as they apply to metering design, layout, construction, and maintenance
+ Revenue meter programming principles and application including communications protocols (Modbus, RS232, Ethernet, modem, and RS485)
+ Advanced knowledge of electrical testing principles and processes
+ Electric utilities and their business environment
+ Safety practices and NESC, NEC, EUSERC requirements
+ Metering schematics including single-line and three-line diagrams
** Skills in:*
* + Troubleshooting
+ Interdisciplinary skills
+ Communication, both oral and written
+ Computers and software use
+ Producing technical reports
** Preferred:*
* + Troubleshooting and repair of high-end meter installations and metering test equipment
+ Programming and communication setup for Schneider Electric ION meters
+ Interpreting electric design/construction drawings including single-line and three-line diagrams
** Ability to:*
* + Manage and coordinate projects
+ Establish and maintain effective working relationships
+ Work both independently and on project teams
+ Develop alternatives and work with others to evaluate their value and potential for meeting company needs

+ Draft written and oral reports of problems, alternatives, and recommendations
