As a Field Service Engineer[Customer Engineer] at Applied Materials, you serve as the direct liaison with customers, collaborating closely to install, maintain, and upgrade equipment. You'll use digital analytics for troubleshooting and apply basic diagnostic techniques to assess and address technical issues. Your responsibilities include performing preventative and corrective maintenance on various systems such as electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic, and gas systems.

Additionally, you'll coordinate and communicate directly with customers to ensure smooth operations and exceptional service.

Job Summary

As an Installation Field Service Engineer (Customer Engineer) at Applied Materials, you'll be at the forefront of semiconductor innovation, working directly with customers to install, maintain, and optimize advanced manufacturing equipment. You'll combine hands‑on technical troubleshooting with customer partnership to keep critical operations running smoothly. This role offers extensive travel, continuous learning, and the opportunity to develop expertise with industry‑leading technology.

Travel

This role requires up to 75% travel.

Please note that the posted pay range is for an Install Field Service Engineer III. The Install Field Service Engineer I, II, and IV offer a different pay range.

Role Responsibilities
  • Install, troubleshoot, maintain, and upgrade Applied Materials equipment at customer sites.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical, mechanical, vacuum, hydraulic, plasma, and gas systems.
  • Diagnose equipment issues and implement solutions with support from senior engineers as needed.
  • Build strong customer relationships through effective communication and technical support.
  • Collaborate with customers and internal teams to understand production goals and equipment requirements.
  • Document service activities and provide timely updates to customers and team members.
  • Share technical knowledge and support the development of less-experienced engineers.
  • Follow all safety, environmental, and quality procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Completion of an Associate degree, military technical training, field service experience, or trade certification
  • 2-4 years of work experience in semiconductor industry or other equipment support industry (medical device, automotive, aerospace, energy & power, electronics manufacturing)
  • Advanced mechanical aptitude with pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum, and/or thermodynamics
  • Strong knowledge of hand tools and their appropriate usage, including digital multimeters
