Mechanical Design Engineer

Solid Works/Semiconductors Gas Abatement Systems

On‑site in Boise,

Target salary range: $90,000 - $

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer - Solid Works/Semiconductor Gas Abatement Systems to design and improve Point of Use (POU) gas abatement systems supporting the semiconductor industry. This role requires experience with Solid Works CAD, mechanical product design, engineering analysis, prototype development, fluid flow, heat transfer, materials selection, and hands‑on testing while collaborating with manufacturing and engineering teams to develop innovative process equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and improve Point of Use (POU) gas abatement systems for semiconductor manufacturing applications.
  • Create and maintain accurate Solid Works 3D models, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings.
  • Manage engineering change requests while maintaining CAD model integrity and configuration control.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to resolve production issues and improve product manufacturability.
  • Maintain and utilize the engineering development laboratory, including test equipment and instrumentation, to evaluate product performance and design improvements.
  • Operate and maintain 3D printing equipment to produce prototype components, fixtures, and testing tools.
  • Develop and implement product cost reduction and design optimization initiatives.
  • Perform engineering analyses including stress calculations, fluid flow, heat transfer, and chemical reaction evaluations.
  • Assemble, test, troubleshoot, and validate prototype and production systems.
  • Research design alternatives and evaluate solutions based on performance, manufacturability, cost, and reliability.
  • Specify appropriate materials, instrumentation, and mechanical components for system designs.
  • Conduct engineering experiments, analyze test data, and provide recommendations for product improvements.
  • Organize, prepare, and lead engineering design review presentations.
  • Develop manufacturing work instructions and field service documentation.
  • Travel to customer sites to troubleshoot equipment issues and support implementation of new designs.
  • Support cross‑functional engineering projects and perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience using Solid Works CAD for mechanical product design.
  • Experience developing detailed mechanical drawings, assemblies, and engineering documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering materials, particularly plastics and their applications.
  • Basic understanding of chemistry and its application to mechanical and process system design.
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations including stress analysis, fluid flow, heat transfer, and design validation.
  • Experience supporting prototype development, testing, troubleshooting, and product improvement.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple engineering projects while meeting deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
  • Knowledge of electronic controls, wiring, and electrical schematics.
  • Experience supporting semiconductor manufacturing equipment or process systems.
  • Experience with 3D printing and rapid prototyping technologies.
