Position Overview:

The Mechanical Superintendent will lead on-site mechanical construction activities for commercial, industrial, and water/wastewater projects. This role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising piping, mechanical installations, and welding operations to ensure safe, on-time, and on-budget delivery. The successful candidate will interface with project management, engineering, contractors and clients to resolve issues, maintain quality standards, and drive efficient field execution of process and mechanical scopes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate all mechanical field activities including piping, welding, equipment installation, valve and piping systems for process, water treatment, and wastewater projects.
  • Lead daily construction planning and execution: assign crews, sequence work, monitor progress, and adjust resources to meet schedules and milestones.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, engineering drawings, welding procedures, pressure test requirements, and industry codes (ASME, API, ANSI as applicable).
  • Maintain site safety and enforce HSE policies: conduct toolbox talks, risk assessments, permit-to-work oversight, and ensure subcontractor adherence to safety standards.
  • Manage quality control and inspection activities: coordinate NDT, dimensional checks, punch lists, and ensure corrective actions are completed prior to turnover.
  • Coordinate procurement and material handling for mechanical scope: track materials, manage storage, and verify quality and quantity of delivered piping components and mechanical equipment.
  • Collaborate closely with project management, engineers, QA/QC, procurement, and clients to resolve technical issues and change orders in the field.
  • Supervise, mentor and evaluate foremen, leads, and craft personnel; manage timesheets, resource allocations, and productivity tracking.
  • Prepare and maintain site documentation: daily reports, progress logs, change request documentation, safety reports, and commissioning support records.
  • Support pre-commissioning and commissioning activities, system flushing, hydrostatic tests, and ensure systems are ready for startup and client handover.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 6+ years experience in mechanical construction with at least 35 years in a superintendent or senior field leadership role on commercial, industrial, or water/wastewater projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge of process piping systems, fabrication, installation, and welding practices; familiarity with ASME piping codes and welding procedures.
  • Proven experience managing piping installations, pipe supports, valves, pressure testing (hydrostatic), and mechanical equipment set and alignment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multi-craft crews and subcontractors, with strong planning, scheduling and resource management skills.
  • Excellent understanding of HSE regulations and best practices in construction; relevant certifications (e.g., OSHA 30, Confined Space, First Aid) preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with experience coordinating between field personnel, engineers, clients and stakeholders.
  • Proficient with construction documentation and reporting: daily reports, RFIs, non-conformance reports, and punch list management.
  • Valid drivers license; relevant trade certifications, welding background, or technical diploma/degree in mechanical engineering technology or similar preferred.
  • Experience with commercial and industrial projects and specific experience in water treatment and wastewater mechanical systems is highly desirable.
