SummaryThe SBA Credit Analyst III is primarily responsible for underwriting SBA 7a loans (over $500,000) and SBA Express lines of credit. The role collaborates with SBA Loan Specialists and Relationship Managers to provide information and assistance regarding application decisions, follows established guidelines, and possesses advanced knowledge of credit policy, bank products, and SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Maintain extensive knowledge of current SBA policy and procedural updates.
- Review and analyze various financial statements, tax returns, balance sheets, profit and loss statements, aging reports, borrowing base certificates, debt schedules, equipment lists, credit bureau reports, rent rolls, lease agreements, and appraisals.
- Prepare SBA-specific financial spreads for commercial and real estate borrowers or guarantors.
- Analyze creditworthiness of applicants and guarantors, calculate cash flows, leverage, liquidity ratios, evaluate collateral, and identify risks.
- Author comprehensive reports using data analysis, charts, formulas, graphs, and written narrative.
- Evaluate credit quality and suggest proper risk rating based on latest financial information.
- Perform independent underwriting of commercial requests ranging from streamlined to moderate complexity with limited guidance.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and stay updated on changes in federal regulations and FIB credit policy requirements.
- Complete financial performance metric covenant testing utilizing prepared financial spreads.
- Participate in a quality control program, reviewing general forms, spreads, and analysis, and providing feedback and mentoring.
- Develop and deliver training materials and assist in training delivery through various channels.
- Engage in mentorship of lower-level analysts, guiding their development of credit acumen.
- Act as a resource for Relationship Managers and other analysts on loan policy, structuring, and underwriting recommendations.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and financial spread software.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
- Capacity to create comprehensive reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Effective presentation of complex information to managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to calculate percentages, discounts, interest, commissions, and perform basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to create, interpret, and explain spreadsheet analysis and carry out instructions in written or diagram form.
- Capable of dealing with complex problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Demonstrated ability to structure complex credits, understand SBA SOP, policy requirements, and strong leadership and computer skills.
High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, or related field preferred. 7‑9 years banking experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Commercial banking experience preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENTThe physical demands include operating a computer keyboard and mouse, occasional lifting up to 10 lbs, sitting frequently, and working overtime as required. Noise level is moderate. Typical work hours are Monday‑Friday, 8:00AM‑5:00PM, with regular and predictable attendance required.
