About The Role
Mountain West Bank is seeking an exceptional Loan Assistant I for our Commercial team in downtown Boise, Loan Assistant I assists the commercial department in ordering related documents from third‑party vendors and external institutions for commercial loans. The assistant helps prepare and maintain customer files, orders and reviews commercial loan documents, and assists internal and external customers with questions, problems, and banking as needed.
The role may also involve preparing various reports as assigned. The assistant must work within deadlines and maintain consistent, reliable attendance.
This is a full‑time, hourly position. Candidates must be available Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM for a total of 40 hours a week. Rate of pay depends on experience.
Duties and Responsibilities- Upholds and actively promotes the bank's core beliefs, core values and customer service standards, collectively known as 'Our Compass'.
- Supports our community through department fundraising activities or volunteering during bank‑sponsored events.
- Prepares documentation sheets checking off all items as they are received to ensure files are completed in a timely manner.
- Corresponds with various institutions and vendors to obtain information needed such as title commitments, UCC pre‑searches and filings, environmental reports, appraisals, flood and tax service; reviews for accuracy.
- Orders and reviews loan documents to ensure accuracy of documents including but not limited to rate, term, proper vesting, legal descriptions, dates, signatures, etc.
- Maintains a tickler system to follow‑up on covenants for the department as required by the various loan agreements.
- Works with the Title Company to ensure our lien is recorded timely and accurately, and the final title commitment is received.
- Assists as needed with pending items/documentation from customers, institutions and vendors.
- Tracks and follows up on maintenance of files including but not limited to rate and payment changes, automatic payment, online banking, insurance, UCC renewals, financial statements and tax returns, corporate verification of status, inspections, etc.
- Actively participates in bank‑related and community volunteer events.
- Monitors loans serviced through loan servicing to ensure that required changes are made and are accurate; works as liaison with other departments.
- Refs likely candidates for the Bank products and services to the appropriate person for follow‑up and close of sale.
- Provides clerical assistance as needed, answering telephones, taking messages, etc. Assists customers and branch personnel with questions or problems concerning loans.
- Maintains and balances holdover accounts, balances budget, and uploads accounts payable for the department as assigned.
- Assists the department on marketing as needed.
- Completes and maintains reports, forms and files for adverse action to ensure compliance.
- May, on a limited basis, analyze tax returns and financial statements.
- Maintains service‑level expectations as defined by the bank.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Complies with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1 year clerical experience.
- Ability to multi‑task and handle complex tasks efficiently.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to maintain quality customer service.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent customer service experience.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other basic office equipment.
- Prior banking experience.
- Fundamental understanding of banking, accounting, legal or related experience.
Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in a climate‑controlled shared work area with moderate noise level.
