SOU Operator

We are establishing an eligibility list to be utilized in filling an opening as a Special Operations Unit Operator. Please see the attached job description for essential functions.

Must be a sworn officer with three (3) years of Law Enforcement experience and off probation  purposes of determining eligibility for this position, any experience, time at BPD, or service requirements are "as of the date/time of this posting." These requirements may be waived or adjusted at any time at the discretion of the Chief of Police.

There is no maximum term limit. This assignment has a preferred commitment of two (2) years. This will ensure the investment in training is partially realized and allow the development of relationships.

If selected, you agree to serve a one-year probationary period; and we will work closely with you to evaluate your performance to ensure a smooth transition to the position's duties and responsibilities.

The following areas will be evaluated in the selection process: supervisor evaluation, peer evaluation, BPD and POST training records, report writing, OBV, discipline history as defined in the policy, and work performance analysis for the previous year.

The testing process will consist of SOU handgun qualification, physical fitness assessment, oral board, written test, and practical assessment.

Following the completion of all aspects of the selection process, a selection recommendation will be made to the SOG Captain. The SOG Captain or his designee will select the most qualified candidates. Those candidates not selected, but who received a qualifying rating, will be placed on an eligibility list.

A list will be established for a six (6) month period after the date of candidate selection.

An SOU Operator is required to possess certain personality traits and individual abilities necessary to provide the Boise Police Department with a unit capable of completing its mission. Those personality traits are courage, integrity, self-discipline, initiative, decisiveness, responsibility, loyalty, and a "teamwork" concept. Members must have the ability to be physically fit, have good motor coordination, superior shooting skills, and the ability to process information while under physical and psychological stress appropriately.

An SOU Operator must maintain proficiency in Unit standards with shooting, tactics, communicating, and fitness.

An SOU Operator is responsible for knowing the information in the Training Handouts and TTPs.

An SOU Operator must be able and prepared to lead BPD officers in successfully resolving situations outside of SOU missions.

An SOU Operator must ensure their equipment is always maintained in mission-ready status.

Must be a sworn officer with three (3) years of law enforcement experience and off probation at Boise Police Department.

Must be able to work well in a team environment.
