• Ensures the safety needs of the patient and the unit are met
• a. monitors and reports equipment for appropriate corrective action
• b. monitors environmental safety factors and initiates appropriate corrective action BBP
• c. attends Fire/Safety, Hazardous Chemicals (optional), CPR course, and Infection Control classes
• d. practices infection control as outlined by Universal Blood and Body Precautions Guidelines BBP
• Participates in the educational requirements for the unit
• a. attends and/or is responsible for all information presented at unit level (staff meetings, communication book, memos)
• Attends in-service education programs specific to providing care for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and/or mature adult population as applicable to area of practice.
• Has knowledge of and responds to all emergency situations (Code Blue, fire, evacuation, disaster, etc.).
• Maintains appropriate PAR levels with stocks as needed (patient supplies, unit clerking supplies)
• Collects samples for lab, skin prep, vein punctures, EKG, V/S, file charts, call physician’s office and faxing.
