Licensed Clinical Social Worker

The social worker will develop an assessment of the veteran in collaboration with the interdisciplinary treatment team, the veteran, family members and significant others. The goal of the assessment is to highlight the veteran's strengths, limitations, and internal/external supports and service needs in order to optimize the veteran's functional status, formulate a diagnosis, and lay the foundation for the treatment plan, if necessary.

The incumbent demonstrates an understanding of the range of treatment and skills needed for general mental health services for all adult patients. The incumbent must be able to identify services needed, refer to appropriate services, and function within a multi-disciplinary setting. They must be able to effectively communicate the needs of veterans to a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Must be able to work with Veterans and family members from various socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, educational, and other diversified backgrounds utilizing counseling skills.
  • Must actively participate as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team and actively participate through collaboration with Veterans and family as well as inter-disciplinary treatment team members in the development and implementation of a treatment plan.
  • Must implement treatment modalities in working with individuals, families, and groups to achieve treatment goals. This requires judgment and skill in utilizing supportive, problem solving, or crisis intervention techniques
  • Must serve as a liaison between Veterans and/or their families and VA and community resources to ensure thorough delivery of services.
  • Must possess fundamental knowledge of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities, and treatment procedures in order to implement treatment modalities, provide counseling, supportive groups and or case management for Veterans and families.
  • Must provide education to Veterans and their families regarding community resources, VA benefits, specialty programs and available health services.
  • Must be available to work with other treatment team and staff members in order to identify psychosocial needs as well as transitional and/or readjustment needs of Veterans and/or families and the impact of the identified psychosocial problems on the Veterans health care planning, case management, compliance with treatment and discharge planning.
  • Must provide emergency/crisis intervention services to Veterans experiencing acute psychological crisis, help to stabilize these individuals, assisting in arrangements for transfer to a psychiatric facility for inpatient care if necessary and providing follow up care as needed.
  • Must possess skills and knowledge to provide case management services to Veterans and their families throughout the continuum of care. The incumbent will be able to appropriately utilize principals of human growth and development over the life

Work Schedule:

Monday
- Friday, 8am- 4:30pm

Pay:
Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.

Parental Leave:
After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy:
After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66

Retirement:
Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Insurance:
Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
