The Head of Retail Safety is responsible for leading the Agri Business Retail Team's environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs to protect employees, reduce workplace hazards, and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations. This role is critical in agriculture-related retail settings, where physical work, equipment use, and environmental factors can pose unique risks. Ultimately responsible for creating a safe, compliant, and productive workplace, balancing regulatory requirements with proactive hazard prevention and employee engagement.

Responsible for managing a team across the North American footprint that provides support and direction for the Retail (SGS and T&H) locations. This position works closely with the Retail leadership team to set goals and priorities to assure regulatory compliance and EHS continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategy and Leadership:
    Lead and develop the Agri Business Retail EHS team across the North American retail network. Partner with Retail leadership to set EHS priorities, goals, and continuous improvement plans. Manage EHS resources and support cross-functional collaboration with HR, operations, and business leaders. Partner with HR, operations, and management to integrate safety into workplace policies and performance goals
  • Training and Prevention:
    Develop and maintain EHS programs, policies, emergency response plans, and safety culture initiatives. Drive measurable incident reduction through proactive hazard identification, trend analysis, corrective actions, and targeted safety initiatives. Coordinate required safety training, leadership updates, and communication of key EHS trends, incidents, and near misses
  • Regulatory and Compliance:
    Oversee regulatory compliance for environmental, health, safety, transportation, and physical security requirements. Conduct audits, inspections, and risk assessments; recommend and support corrective actions. Provides technical support for environmental, health, safety and transportation regulatory compliance. To include requirements found in 29 CFR (OSHA), 40 CFR (EPA) and 49 CFR (FMCSA and PHMSA) and DOT standards
  • Risk Management:

    Investigate incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventive measures. Maintain and review risk management systems; conduct hazard assessments and implement controls. Develop and maintain retail emergency response plans; coordinate crisis management and escalation reporting
  • Analytics and Best Practices:
    Analyze data and provide reports, recommendations, and guidance to senior leadership, operations, and regulatory partners. Conducts research and keeps current on the ever-changing safety regulations, both on a federal and state level. Communicates all applicable information to the locations and provides guidance on appropriate implementation methods

Coordinates monthly calls, sharing of critical incidents and near-misses

Typical Education Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university Relevant Experience 10+ years related experience and/or training Required Certifications Responsible Ag Auditor Certification is preferred. Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification preferred. Previous training in OSHA Haz Woper is preferred. Current DOT highway hazardous materials training per 49 CFR 172 is preferred.

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must have a strong working knowledge of federal and state environmental, health and safety laws and regulations; including, OSHA, EPA, DOT and similar. Must be able to interact and communicate effectively with management, operations and agency personnel alike. Must be willing to travel (approx. 40%) and have a willingness to provide assistance outside of normal business hours as needed (i.e. respond to emergencies during off shifts, weekends and/or holidays).
